i want to add a dint into an image (of a car bonnet) so it looks realistic..

any pointers. or can someone do this for me..

If you are making a texture, it might be easier to use a bumpmap instead.

You can say Dint too? I thought only Dent was acceptable :P

I'd think you make a shadow or something? so that it appears to be a depression in the material?

Yeah use the colour dodge and colour burn tools to effectively create a dent/dint. You need to use the burn tool to create shadows and dodge to create highlights. Remember, usually, the light comes from the top-leftm so the highlights would be oin the bottom right of the dint/dent and the shadows on the top left of the dent/dint

You can use a bumpmap like v1p3r said. You can draw one. Or you can do a google image search for dint or dent, find one you like and then paste it and resize it where you want on your image, then blend the edges so it doesn't look like a cut and paste job.
