I recently started working full time as an intern for an oil and gas company. Now the work I do is repeatative (literally the same thing over and over again) and ass boring. I was thinking about how I could pass the time better while I'm at work. So I ask the work force of hl2net, how do you pass the time? I do lots and lots of kegels (I sit at a desk), think about sex (which guy doesnt) I'll listen to music in my head (I can listen to music I've heard before), think about my friends and funny stuff we've done. I try to not look at the clock at all because I find the more I look at it, the slower the day goes by. and as lame as it is to admit, I think about how much faster the hl2 wait will be because im not thinking about it.

The lady that sits behind me, and is basically my boss, listen to the radio and books on tapes. I'm contemplating asking her if it would be alright to do the same. Maybe some spanish learning tapes because I have to take a spanish entry exam for college.

what's your best way to pass the time?

I work on an assembly line, so doing the exact same three manuevers for 8 hours gets really, really old. I pass the time by either working faster (actually helps) setting production goals and trying to meet them before breaks. And thinking about old school tv shows, or if I could make a game how would it be.
Doesn't always work all that great and I usually start dosing off. Take lots of bathroom breaks! Even if you don't have to go :monkee:

I work outdoors clearing land and working with my hands all day. I listen to music or think about comedians is what I usually do. Sometimes I think about a cool senario I could have in a game when I got fhome, or I think of ways to get my jobs done faster. I just have to keep my mind occupied with something interesting or intriguing.

Play computer games. ;)

Do you have a laptop?

Edit: Whoops, this is when your at work. ;)
Listen to music would be my suggestion.

yeah i have the same repeatativ motions and stuff. it's a load of copying and pasting aLL DAY.

Gamble... on just about any damn thing. Doesn't need to actually have money involved either...

Oh ya, and sometimes throw stuff into the ceiling fan.

You can combine the two and see who figures out which way it'll fly.

At work? At what kind of place do you work? Lots of free time, or relaxed environment? Wish I had a better job, oh well, mine pays.

I get watched like a hawk by my superiors, so to pass the time I get on with my job (which sounds lame, but makes the day go quicker than being full of self pity at how shit my job is). Least it's only a part time job though. Most people enjoy the weekend, whereas I've lothed them for four years. :(

Yeah I work really hard and get alot done. I was just mension things I do in addition to working that it go by faster.

well I work with one other guy in the job I do and we spend 8 hours chatting every day, but have absolutley nothing in common. suppose it makes for some interesting debates though.

I also get immense satisfaction in knowing that I currently have probably the crappest job I will ever have and that they wont get any worse :P (least hopefully not when I get my degree).

yeah i work 'with' a really boring lady. she's like 40 years old and im 18.... it's not much in common. everyone at the office laughs at the tinest thing. i could mension that i screwed up something and be like "OH OOOH OOH guess it's back to the drawing board for me!" and everyone would crack up.... it's so lame....

lol, well I work in a retail store (B&Q) and I'm at the bottom of the ladder in every respect (trolley boy *meh*) and I find it funny how the managers just can't comprehend how I don't want to make a career out of the shitty job, and that I'm only doing it to pay my way through uni.

Also when I have perfomance reviews I'm supposed to say how much I love giving customer service and stuff and I just say how much I hate the job, and when I do a manager usually says to me "well why are you here then? customer satisfation is your route to satisfaction" and I say "all I care about is the crummy minimum wage" and walk out. I work hard though, so they cant fire me so **** YOU B&Q!

To pass the time i normally work....

I had an interesting incident the other day. A little back story first, i work at Tesco (A super market in Britain) and i generally work quite hard because if you are doing a job you should do it properly, if you don't work hard and the managers get on your back for something else then it doesn't really matter what they say, you don't have a defense because you aren't doing your bit and anayway, i always feel better after a real days work rather than messing around. Most of the managers appreciate the work i do and although i haven't got a pay rise yet (The system they have basically grants everyone a rise after a review every 6 months or something) i do still get other benefits. They don't seem to mind if i ask for days off and things like that. Another thing, i always save my breaks till quite late in my shift, so i basically have a break, work for and hour have anothr break, work for an hour and go home.

Heh, after all that you are problably expecting something amazing but it really isn't...

So anyway, there was this manager i haven't had before and he basically treats me like im stupid...I think its because i'm not a loud person and he also doesn't like the time i have my breaks as in his head it means im in the store less time....twisted logic really...anyway, i told another manager that i felt this guy was being condecending with me and treating my like i was mentally deficiant. The problem is the manager i was talking to didn't even know what condecending, or deficiant mean't. This is a manager and he doesn't even know some basic words of the English language. Also, on my review(Which was good by the way :D) he wrote that my punctuation is good, i think he meant punctuality, as in i arrive on time.

We did take a TV out of the warehouse the other day so we could watch the football, although its reception isn't that good.

i sit here on hl2.net

seriously, i'm at work right now :D lol

I work as a salesperson at this store that sells boating supplies(rope, screwes, sails, small boats, spare parts, toilets, refridgerators, you name it) and usually if the day is boring or nothing is happening I spend my time talking to this fit female co-worker, who's the same age as me ;)

i work in a genetics lab. i do research on a protein(i helped find two new alleles this year :) ). i'm between schooling (trying to get into an MD-PhD or MD or just PhD program). Right now, my supervisor is in Italy for two weeks. I am waiting on a reagent to come (because the company sent us crappy reagent the first time). I'm in kind of a lull right now, because i don't have any other projects that are really going on (they're on hold since my supervisor is in aforementioned Italy). SO anyways, i pass the time surfing hl2.net, although we don't have many cool topics(since we have no new nfo) and listening to a radiostation on itunes(we have macs here - it's a research thing) that's from california that plays eclectic music.

btw have any of you Brits heard of Grand National? They're a UK band and they're really good. I would have to import a cd to listen to them so i'm waiting until (hopefully) they'll be available here.
