How does barney explain away gordon just.... disappearing in the beginning of the game?

Like, they see an important person, take him out into a back room, he kicks one of them out, and then (for some reason) they come barging back in... and gordon runs away...

How does barney explain this to the combine? Somehow i don't think "uhh, he got away?" would quite cut it....

Plus, he RETURNS TO WORK, which means he didn't get in any trouble or suspicion for it...

Does anyone else find this weird?

I, your king :), can explain this

He's behind on his beating quota correct?

None of the others know who Gordon actually is unless they've been toldto look out for the guy in the HEV, and at that point he doesn't have the HEV

The other combine guys just think Gordon's a normal guy, so Barney could say he was getting mouthy, so he killed him, and disposed of the body (they'd prob be pleased with his initiative)

I think...

That they did'nt suspect anything to begin with. It was barney, that probably was in charge of checking out the people who are in the way to the Nova Prospekt train. He saw Gordon at the checkpoint through the CCTV and when he recognized him he acted out as if he takes him for questioning - it's probably under his authority. Hence, i'm sure no one even cares about what happened, it's just someone that barney thought was suspicious and he took him for questioning. Totally routine.
About the Combine coming to the room later on - they saw him turn off the camera's - maybe they suspected something was going on.

Sorry I posted exactly what u said... didn't see ur post

Barney could have just told them that he released the suspect from custody a few minutes before they showed up. Without the security camera footage, they'd never know the difference.

He punched himself in the eye and said he ran away. They pity him and he got his job back:)

I think it was most likely he said "He Got Away!"

After all, they where anxious to find a man in city17 that wasn't supposed to be there, i.e, in tenements

Breen is shocked and suprised when he sees Gordon during the teleportation foul up. Until that point, no one is alerted to the presence of Gordon. As far as they are concerned up until the teleporter accident Gordon never made it out of Black Mesa.

I thought I heard Barney saying that "He wants to do this in private" and then turns off the camera and removes his head gear. Maybe by him saying that (his bluff), the combine would think that "mr. combine-barney" is going to beat Gordon and maybe even kill him, and does not want it to be on camera. So, yeah, there is no proof of Gordon being there because of that whole scenario.

hmm, maybe.

It was explained

Barney said to the other combine soldiers that he was gay, and had a thing for men with goatees and glasses. He also told the other soldiers that when he finds one he will take him in one of the rooms and have sex with him, hence why they allowed him to turn off the cameras. To avoid being considered homophobic the combine soldiers let him do what he wanted. That Barney is one clever bastard

No, it was actually "I'm gonna need me some privacy for this". I know because I turned on subtitles because I couldn't understand that part. :p Sounded like "gonna get me some progress for this" to me.

That's EXACTLY what I thought it said! Or something like that.

Like: "I'm gonna get me a providence for this!" or something.

I thought that whatever the p-word he said was might be currency.

On subject, yes, that is strange.

EDIT: oh crap I didn't realize I was on page 12 when I posted this. So sorry. Feel free to lock or delete. :( -K

Whats really interesting is how Barney does it for a living.

He cant let everyone go, which means he *does* beat up the people they send to him.

Yes, to keep up with his quota, Barney should have beaten the living daylights out of Gordon.

well, G-man might have spread the news that Gordon is coming. That's why the people of City 17 are aware of your existance.

i think people are aware because of the other scientists in hiding that knew you personally, and told everyone what you had done in black mesa, NOT g-man. Although, wouldn't all the scientists think you were dead after no-one saw you after the whole HL-1 incident?
