How does cs source look/perform when set to DX8 (if possible)

I have a 9500 pro, and an amd xp 2400, so im assuming I wont be able to play with the highest settings when in DX9 mode. I was wondering if it was possible to set the game to direct x 8, and if so (if anyone has done it/ could try it) does the performance increase, and does it still look good?

i have a geforcefx 5600 and an amdxp3200+ and i can run at almost full so you could prbly run at medium

yeah, Ihave a 4600ti and I was also wondering how to enalbe dx8 software. Right now my settings say dx8 hardware and dx9 software. Wondering if change them both to dx8 that my frames will jump up by at leat 10 - 20 percent
