How does Half life 2 handles multiplayer?

Hi there,

I am wondering what kind of technology is half life 2 using to handle networking...

I am looking into writing networking programming.. but my language is c#..

Using sockets, directplay or ???

I not sure whether how good half life 2 networking or multiplayer are, but i believe it is a mega game, should be cool!

Any tips to share how you guys handle it?

I had 1 scenario.. just say:

10 ppl playing in 1 game (internet). 5 of them use ATI Radeon 9800 pro, P4, 512 MB and broadband. The other 5 use lower graphics cards, less memory, lower processor and just 56k dial up modem. So how does you all sync the codes that makes it smooth enough.

Any tips?
