I installed the SP1 for vista 64bit while a thunderstorm was rolling through. I had no problems with the install, but I figure maybe the thunderstorm could have something to do with connectivity to the internet.

Now a LOT of major sites I try to view don't work, suck as ebay, flickr, and nvidia...but a lot of sites like this one do work. How can half of my internet not be working?

It'll try and connect for maybe 20 seconds, then give me an error saying page can not be found. It's really frustrating.

well ya see the internet is a series of tubes. Perhaps one of the major tubes near you has broken. You could always try some traceip jive if you really feel like investigating, but I'll bet it'll get fixed in no time.

Must be broken internet tubes. :)

Reset your router (power). Do a forced refresh (Ctrl+F5) on the website or try a different browser. Try those when you get home first. Could just be the routing from your ISP to the Net is wrong. Maybe something is offline for maintenance.

Will this work for 32-bit Vista?

Actually, whats the difference between 32 and 64 bit? speeds?
No the 32-bit version will be out later
And the difference between 32 and 64-bit vista is that 64-bit vista can handle more than 3mb of RAM, and has less driver support (at the moment).
Among other things...

I remember when this was the only site that would load, everything else would fail. Now, I thought it was just cached, until new posts were appearing.... :O

Should I buy a shovel for Microsoft, so they can dig deeper in their sh*t?

Sounds like a DNS problem or possibly a software firewall problem. I've frequently had problems where a dodgy firewall will randomly (and I mean completely randomly) block sites like Hotmail for me, for varying periods of time.

Go to your command prompt and type ipconfig /all. If you have UAC on you will have to run the command prompt as an administrator before it lets you run this command. To do that go to your windows folder, system 32, and then right click on command.exe and select run as administrator.

Post the output here.

Also, since you said nvidia doesnt load for you try typing its IP address which is:

http://216.228.113.63

It will give you a 500 error but it will be their custom page. If that loads while the actual domain doesn't this is clearly a DNS issue.
