Seriously.. how does this story even make it to the news? The school has a policy that they were enforcing, and since they're a private school they're allowed to decide who can attend the school and who cannot, it's as simple as that. Besides, her parents aren;t even gonna fight it, and she's gonna attend public school. This story is pointless, does anyone else feel differently or agree?

Similar to the Pope thread:

Yes, it is their right. They're still doing a wrong thing. Perhaps it's not as pressing as some world affairs, but I hope it gets a good bit of circulation and (hopefully) a negative reaction.

right and wrong are arbitrary

Then put right and wrong into this context:

Intolerance = Bad

This is ridiculous. A student is getting the boot because her parents are gay? Like that somehow makes her a homosexual as well by association?

in that context, yes, it is wrong - but at the same time intolerance is accepted all over the place in some form or another
i don;t know why they have that policy, but i'd assume it's mainly because they don;t want the students being possibly influenced... that's conjecture, though

Are they allowed to discriminate on grounds of sex or race? No? Then why are they allowed to discriminate on grounds of PARENT's sexual orientation?

while it's not illegal it's definately discrimination ..but to be honest she's probably better off without christian indoctrination

because they are a private organization they are allowed to discriminate based on any criteria. ie: boyscouts

Only when endorsed by numbername. :O

Seriously though, these 'Only in [country]' posts stopped being funny approximately ALWAYS ago.

Anywho, as awful as that sounds, I can't help but agree that she is better off getting a real education. Freaking bigots.

Im surprised that the ACLU hasnt started a hoopla about this, not that a hoopla would be out of order. I cant go on, words fail to describe the torrent of digust and utter hatred I now have for this school.

edit, Thank GOD Im in New York, we dont have to deal with this stuff down here.

double edit, IM THE WORK OF THE DEVIL

Absolutely disgusting.

That's really all I have to say on this. Whatever I'd say in an elaboration has been said millions of times over by countless people. Suffice to say, schools like this should NOT be teaching children ANY set of morals at all.

I agree that an organisation is free to create any criteria for membership that they desire. But the reason that this is newsworthy is that some people, me included, are against this sort of discrimination. Not only is it based on discrimination against homosexuals, which I don’t agree with, it also holds an innocent person somehow accountable for the actions of separate sentient human beings, i.e. the pupil is being punished for her parent’s actions.

How is this newsworthy? Well, if I were a more tolerant Christian, one that believes that Jesus’ teachings (New Testament) are more important than the collection of fables that are only there to set the scene for the parts about Jesus Himself (Old Testament), then I would want to know what schools are teaching an example that I want my children exposed to. Reading this story lets me know what kind of “Christians” these people are, and lets me avoid exposing my children to these sorts of examples of unwarranted hatred.

Precisely. Exactly what her parents' sexuality has to do with the school and its treatment of her is beyond me. If she herself was homosexual and was hitting on other girls then, whilst I would still fervently disagree with the school's decision, I would at least understand it. Sure it's the school's "right" to do that as a private institution, but that doesn't make it a fair decision - she's being punished for her parents' "sin". Absolutely disgusting.

Yet another thing to add to my list of 'Reasons why i'm glad that I don't live in America.'

Things like that are further eroding what little faith I had left in humanity.

Idd.

What kind of prat would expell someone for that, its appalling.
