How Is This Humanly Possible?!

I just got my Xaser III case. So I set everything up, BUT before that, I ditched the stock HSF for the Intel P4 3.0, and put in an Alpha PAL, and put an 80mm fan on top, also I put Arctic Silver 3 paste on the cpu before hand. Now, I look in bios my CPU temp is 64c!!! Before this whole thing it was 52c! Wtf is going on?!

it could possibly the paste, you really don't need it at all. and if you put it on wrong or sumthing goes wrong, it will do that

64c is dangerously high... you mgiht want to not use that before you melt a hole in your mobo....

A processor can take 100 C for some secs (been there done that) i think 80 C is the limit or something.

Are you sure that you took _very_ little paste?

70C is the limit. Take off the HSF and get all the AS3 off of the core. Put a new layer on, VERY thin, and im sure you know to use a toothpick head, or put your hand in a plastic bag to spread it. And also, isnt the bios temps higher then the real temps? You have the hardcano 9 hooked up on the case? See what it says on that.

Idk how to hook up the hardcano 9 lol. So it's just sitting in my comp taking up space.

Yeah that gay thing is impossible to hook up plus it doesnt have instructions. D/l MBM 5 and see what the temps are.

Id beg to differ. My AMD Athlon 1.4ghz has ran at 81 C before.

Im sure not for long You have that comp booted for a few short minutes over 70C, and that CPU is toast.

expected to be around 60ºC-65ºC or lower.
Although "normal" operating temperatures are not specified for AMD processors, there are
maximum operating temperature ratings that must not be exceeded. The maximum operating
temperature of a processor may be determined by the processor's Ordering Part Number

Note: The maximum operating temperature specification is based on a measurement taken
directly from the top center of the processor die. The temperature reported by a system's BIOS
might not reflect the true temperature of the processor if the measurement is taken from an

the thermal probe, hardware monitor, and analog to digital signal conversion. As a result, some
variance should be allowed when comparing the maximum operating temperature to the
temperature reported by the system's BIOS.

but yeah, in regards to your temperature guinny, uhm, it could be too much thermal paste, or the block not being perfectly flat, or any number of other things.

I reapplyed the paste, but not when you guys said too little. I put generally the same amount (alot) but this time it's alot cooler. Idle I'm 35c, and full load 45c. So thanks for all your help.

Don't think it was the paste.. But anyway, congrats on the new stuff mate :cheers: .. Glad it worked out for you, 35c idle is pretty good.. Certainly better then before

more paste doesnt make it cooler ;/ you're supposed to use a VERY thin layer.

you'd probably get better temps with even less, also depending on the paste it takes 24-48 hours for it to settle and give consistent temps.

Let's say like 6 months from now I want to put a new layer of paste on, will the old later be really hard to take off?
