After hl2 is released, how long would it usually take for retailers such as best buy and gamestop to recieve the shipment

First off, HL2 will be released AFTER stores recieve it. ;)

As far as I know, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks from gold status to shelf status. But I could be wrong.

it can be as short as 2 weeks from gold date to release date

Man, I'm stuck in Mexico, HL2 will surely get here 2 month after I will have to bye it from Amazon. I cant wait a year to buy HL2.

It usually is about two weeks in the US. Four weeks would be an extremely long period after going gold.

Of course, keep in mind that smaller retailers like EB and Gamestop usually get them a couple days sooner than Best Buy and Circuit City.

As everyone else said, it takes about 2 to 4 weeks for a game to hit shelves after going gold. If everything is still going according to plan at Valve, I'd say a gold date should be coming within the next month or so, with the game hitting shelves near the end of August. However, that is an estimate on my part and shouldn't be taken as anything else.

Ohh man. That sucks big time. =(

god ... I'm soooooooooo excited ... i have zero complaints about this game coming out ...

You guys, you aren't answering his question. What he is asking is how long it takes for stores to get the game after it is RELEASED, not after it has gone gold. For example, if the game was released on the 1st of September, what day would retail stores get it in stock. Did you guys even read his post :p?

I thought valve were going for a simultaneous worldwide release... So wouldn't that logically mean that more copies are going to have to be made than a normal game (which would only take 2 weeks or so)? So I would think at least 4 weeks after the gold date.

Well, nobody seems to read replies, so let me repeat:

He is not asking about the amount of time it takes from the Gold Date to the Release Date. He is asking how long it will take for stores to get the game in stock after the release

Come on guys, reading isn't that hard :p

Frosty, his question was answered by the first reply; the game is shipped before it is released. This is universally correct as far as I know.

Right. Think of the "release date" as the day that the retailers are allowed by the publisher to put it out on the shelves. The retailers themselves will receive the shipments of the game anywhere from a few days to a week before the official "release date."

It all comes down to how many copies CAN be produced #/Day and how many is needed for the initial release.

You don't know these numbers but the publisher does.

i am sure gabe has loads of cdr drives in his box. in one of the photos someone took on a trip to valve u can see a few sets of 100 white top cdr's in the back ground. so i say about 1-2 weeks for it to be worldwide, if not less.

Thanks, I wasn't sure what he meant in the first post (it almost looked like he was joking, since he put the ";)" at the end :p) And I wasn't sure if it was universally true that games were received before release. But now I know

... Oh wait, you ppl think the CE is coming out the same day the regular retail package is? Get real... rofl

I thought that was pretty crazy, too, but that's what Valve said, and they know better than us I suppose...

Yeah, some people with right connections may have the game a few days before the release date, because the retailers are selling it "under the desk" if you know what I mean.

But isn't it frustrating to know that the nearest store may have hundreds of copies of a game you're dying for, but they're not allowed to sell it until like after ten days.
