My question is, how long before you guys think I should buy a new PC? Well I don't upgrade my parts, when the time comes I order all new top of the line stuff and build it myself. So how long do you guys think my parts now will last? I've had it for about 10 months:

3.0ghz P4 Intel
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
1024mb PC3200 RAM
Santa Cruz Sound Card
DVD/CD-R Drive etc etc and all the rest of the crap.
ASUS P4P800 Mobo.

:hmph: Well if you order and build computers YOURSELF, wouldn't you know when the next best thing comes out? Don't tell me you made this as an excuse to "show-off" your rig? Anyways your current rig could last you 20 years. It's just when you WANT to upgrade and how you use computers, PCI Express is just around the corner.

No no no no not my intention at all. In fact im starting to feel inferior with all this new hardware coming out. Idk im thinking of saving up $2500 and buying whatevers top of the line around next year at this time. Should I feel inferior? I mean the AMD64 processor, the pci-express, and the x800 all make me feel like im running a 486. What do you guys think?

Your computer is still "high end". I really don't know what you are complaining about.

Idk I get like these fits. It's stupid. However next year around eh.....March or April I'm going to start shopping for a new comp. I already know I want the X800 XT, even if there are better cards out at the time. I know I want an AMD64 processor, once again even if better are out(though i doubt by next year there will be 128-bit architecture :-P) In terms of sound card, ram, speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse, drives etc, whatevers best at the time I'll get. My next issue is PCI-Express. What is it exactly? A motherboard? An attachment? What is it?

It's a motherboard type, meaning those new PCI-E cards won't be running on current motherboards.

:/

I try to upgrade essential things once a year, and non-essentials once every 2 years.

Ok so if I want the AMD64 processor I'll apparently need the AMD64 motherboards. Does anyone know what the difference is between AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Athlon64 FX?

i think hes a game enthusiest or something... someone thats just gota have the bleeding edge evreything to play on absolute max settings... most enthu's upgrade asap when new HW comes out... but i think your fine... im running FX5200 P4 256megs ram.. 128 card 52X CD-ROM... ect... and ive been running evreything from doom to unreal 2 even to farcry with decent settings and good fps so i say your still good

hmmm....game enthusiast......i like the sounds of that. yeah i guess so but im not in dire need of a new comp. hell i just got this baby 10 months ago and i plan on hanging onto it for like another year. I'm going with an amd64 of some kind, and an x800 so far. does anyone have any suggestions for a motherboard that will run amd64 @ its full potential? and also, which amd64 is best? the fx? or regular?

As long as what you have does what you want then there is no need to upgrade.

PCI Express is a new technology that will replace PCI and AGP slots on mainboards.
The only PCI Express devices that will be out in numbers will be GFX cards at first.
Don't do anything rash...lol
If you must upgrade wait til after summer (or longer) and everything dies down and comes into play.
