I just wrecked somebody mirror they guys say it looks like it can be fixed the its just needs be glues back on on the cables need re-connecting.

so how much do you guys think this is gonna cost me?

I believe the last time my dad had to replace his car mirror it cost him over ?40 (that's GBP, not a ?, feckin' forum). That was for just the mirror, I believe.

*wields metal bat*

Which kneecap do you use least?

Depends on the mirror and the extent of the damage. Glue will not hold a mirror in place. What kind of car is it?

uhm I think its a old civic the guys says he's pretty sure the mirror can be reattached.

well according to the internet, a 1992-1995 civic side mirror costs from $33-$55 so through a dealership you can expect to pay $80-$110.

Is it colour coded?

If it's fixable, then i should imagine it could be done cheap, but as above, i dont fancy blasting down the motorway with my mirror GLUED on.

If it's colour coded and you go for replacement then the most expensive thing will be getting it painted.

if just the mirror surface itself, it shouldn't be expensive or difficult to find that mirror for an old civic at a scrapyard. Just pry it off.

Be aware that they may try to charge you for the whole side mirror assembly because you are ruining it by taking the glass/mirror. You may pay less if you act unaware, and take it off on your own, at most places. If you ask about it before-hand, they will make you aware that you will pay for the whole assembly.

Then go to wal-mart or a car parts store and get mirror adhesive glue. There should be two types. One for reattaching a rear view mirror to the windshield, and the other for gluing a mirror back to the side mirror assembly.

follow the directions on the package use to make sure there is good adhesion.

so I jjust went by to see what car it exactly was

it's a Toyota Camry LE...a rather old one too so hopefully it wont be that much.

scrapyards are really cheap in most cases. A few dollars for most stuff. their main money comes from good body parts. ... doors, etc. If a car is in an accident, it's usually a body part that people come to the salvage yard to get.

One scrapyard wanted $80 for two seats from a 1990 turbo RX7, but the seats were in great shape. But like an interior switch or something would be a dollar or two.

Engine parts commonly ruined in the rain. I commonly get a dozen small interior parts and a dozen little metal clips or screws for about 15 dollars.

For the whole mirror assembly of an old car that is faded or the paint is damaged, maybe 5 dollars. The mirror surface itself would probably be 2 dollars.

why do you think the driver of the toyota will acept a glued on mirror from a junk yard? I wouldnt, I'd get my own estimate at my bodyshop and I would present it to the person who hit my car and say ..I want this in cash or I'll file a claim with insurance ..unless you know the guy there's no way they're going to accept a half-assed job

The car is old, it sounds like the guy isn't really interested in making him pay as much as possible, he just wants it fixed.

I recommend you find out the year/make/model of the vehicle.

for example, 1989 Toyota Camery LE

all of these details are important as they generally make a few cosmetic changes every year (often this includes sportier looking side mirrors), and an entirely different model of the vehicle every 4 years.

Also, LE would have some differences from a different package.

So after you find out those details, then it would be easy to call the salvage yards in your area and find out if they have that car. Usually they say, "yea we have a few of those"

If you can't find out the year for some reason, you may have to eyeball it and go out there in the yard and confirm it is the same and pull it off yourself.

ah I thought "the guy" was the mechanic not the guy who's car he hit

Well Im actually going the route stern pointed out,the "Victim" has my address and phone number and he told me he would call me once he gets a estimate from a body shop...I just hope its not more then 150....

so the dude dropped off a letter with a estimate.....$191
I'm thinking about calling and letting him now I can onlt give him $100 on friday and another in 2 weeks...with rent and doctor bills at the moment that's the best I can do....what do you guys think?

smash his windshield with a baseball bat, he'll forget about the smashed mirror ..also works with wife's kneecaps

Does insurance not cover it?

And it'd be cheaper to replace it yourself. That's extortionate.
