When I was in highschool they had someone go on the PA system and do it. We had to stand up and say it with them. I never could be arsed. I thought like you, and figured if I said it once, I said it enough. Usually lead to trouble. Got kicked out of the Library once for not standing and continuing with my work. Apparently I hate America.

Yes. We also say the Texas Plegde:
I pledge alligience to thee, Texas, One and Indivisible.

It's just first rate propaganda to keep us loyal to the country and state.

I got ridiculed once for not saying "under god" in the pledge.
