I'm just curious. How often do you really use it?
I do understand if you are in a hurry to type, like for example when you are playing games, but I myself really don't like this "1337" language. I feel disturbed that the Internet kinda sabotaged languages like english. I mean not only do we type "lol" in chat sometimes, but I have even witnessed people actually saying "lol" in public. I mean that's just awful! Of course we can use it to make those who overuse it to look stupid, I'm all for that, but when people actually type "u" unstead of "you", "k" instead of "OK" (that's probably the laziest translation ever!), etc, I automaticly refer to this person as retarded. It's a sad thing, really. I'm not all that upset if people talk like that in chats, but when people do it in forums, I get kinda upset over the way the Internet has destroyed the language for some people.

What are your opinions on the "1337" language? Do you think we should continue use it? After all, the Internet grows bigger all the time. Mabye some day it might even become the actual language.

(Oh, and please just give me your opinons on the subject and not complaining about my typos. :p)

Every single one of my posts has perfect grammar... :P

Well I wouldn't say that, precisely 3 months ago to the second you made a mistake.

Anyway, I just don't like so called 1337. Its so pointless.

i hate 1337. i don't mind it when it's used in satirical pieces, but it's just bloody annoying. top of the list has to be people in CS who have really funky names like |>4RK]V[4N or some shit. really annoying!

Only when I'm being sarcastic/an asshole.

Yeah, you missed the 'I use 1337 simply to take the urine out of people that use it fo real' option.

'k' instead of ok is perfectly fine, I think, hell ok is short for okay, and people said 'kay in the old days, so no complaints. In jest I may use l33tspeak or 'retard'(I call that the whole you = u, etc thing ;P), but never seriously. I type out full words, especially if they're short. mostly i say prolly a bit too much, should get out of that habit.

Only when trying to confuse friends who know nothing of '1337-speak' :E

oooops...

I selected the first of the never options when I in fact meant...

I HATE LEET SPEAK WITH BURNING PASION......

Well, in that case they could be typing "kay" instead, but in most cases it is only for replying in chat programs, so I guess it's fine, but it is still one of those things I don't like about the way the Internet has changed the language.
I do believe people typed "OK" instead of "Okay" before Internet, so that's nothing to blame the Internet on (although I'm pretty sure it would have been if it wasn't typed that way already).

I'm elite, thank you very much. I believe I just possesed you there mate. You are such an ignorant newcomer to this game, I believe you should be quiet.

:E

I r l33t. OWN3D!!11 n00b! stfu!

I like the first method and loathe the second :)

leet speak is very annoying to me. it just seems pointless and like it would take extra time to me. I dont mind the occasionall w00t or such, but it just gets on my nerves that people just dont talk normal.

I use it when I want to mock those who are serious when they speak it. I hate it and what it's doing to the language.

I use it to talk to my mum all the time, but she is quite fluent in ebonics so i stab her.

You should've added the options:

* Only when mocking script kiddies
* Only when pretending to be an idiot

:hmph:

:P

I think the occasional w00t! is fine, but I hate people who talk entirely like that :x

I only use "l337" when i know that it will annoy the people around me.

I only use it to impersonate idiotic morons.

Like 13 year old Counter-Strike players!

:D:D:D:D:D

Translation:

"My good man, I hardly ever partake in my discussions while conversing in the language of '1337'"

A house down my street has the apartment numbers 1337. I feel bad for the tenants...

I used to know someone whos last name was 'leet'. Very computer-savvy, too.

I use basic leet, stuff like owned and pwnd, shite like that.

I'm confused, why can you vote for as many as you want?

1337 gives me a headache and I see no point in it. Abbreviations when gaming is the only thing that makes sense to me. (brb, gg, g2g and such, just because if you type it out, you die :p)

two things i don't usually do when typing online:
1. Capitals
2. Periods

and sometimes i don't do apostrophes
the only time I do periods is for emphasis. <- lik e that or "i hat e you."
i very rarely do 'u' anymore.. 'k' comes once and a while too. lol of course happens all the time
I think acronyms are fine (don't say them, type them damnit) lmao, rolf, afaik are all fine in my books

there's several different types of typing shortcuts, there's the unintelligable symbol stuff, the retarded girl shortcuts, and normal typing shortcuts.

i'm an amature writer, so by principle, I abhor 1337. And the fact that it's been so massively whored throughout the computer world adds to my disgust.

I didnt know what the heck "1337" is

but I just use it to make fun
like roX0r LOL ROLF XASL YUIO FIBK ÑOP QIOT etc...

Leet speak offends my gods, or something, it just looks stupid.

101 u n3wb.

Anyone who didn't vote for one of the bottom two.....shame on you.

Basicly, I don't mind online talk but I really don't like L337 speak.

I don't like it when someone only uses L337 speak and does not speak normal english. I know a guy who actually says "L O L" when speaking out loud. :\
I don't mind acronyms (btw) or w00t when not abused.
K and u are alright in my book since that isn't L337 speak.

I always double check my posts for any obvious errors for spelling and sentence structure so I can edit them. I hate it when I post and a sentence I just wrote doesn't make any sense. :P

I use it in real life... hopefully girls will like that.

"H3y gurL n3xt t00 meH, s3x me up!!!!111!!111!```!1`2112@`11111oneoneonetwooneoneoneoneoneonethree...peroid."

A girl would start flapping her arms in the air and start bitching if I talked like that.

"I should really start putting all my posts in quotes, so that i can never make an spelling or grammatical ;) error"

:P :P

I type normally all the time except for really common things like "lol" and "wtf". I tend to use ascii smilies a lot while chatting though.

The only time in real life when I say anything "leet" is when I say "OWNED"
