How the hell do i restore a .img file to a hdd

Okay, so this is my problem.

I have an OS which is in the .img format. I want to restore it as a usb image to a Hard Disk, NOT a USB Flash Disk or thumdrive as I do not have one. Now I scoured the internet for software to do that, and all those ****ing software, only seem to support USB Flash Disks/Thumdrives/DVD's .. no support for hard-disks, it doesn't recognize at all.

And those that actually support HDD, they don't seem to support the .img format, only .iso,.arc and other crap.

I want to be able to boot this OS from the HDD, in the boot menu, but I haven't found a way to restore the .img file to my HDD

What OS is it your trying to install?

xp..i saved my old HDD as an image, cos I got a new HDD for my laptop.

What software did you use to create the image file?

Is it possible to rename or convert the img file? D:
Is nero's IMG the same as a ISO? I seem to remember being able to rename the file .ISO. Maybe I'm thinking of a different nero file.

Ah, forget it. I bought an 8gig Flash drive and solved the problem. i can't remember what software i used to create the image though, it was ages back.
