So I'm running down to Hotel from Surveillance Post on Sharqi. I see a guy over at the fence in the Construction Site. I line up with my M95 and shoot him, only got him in the chest though. I start running the other way down the hill when this happens. How the hell did I kill him with the chopper?!

perhaps you missed him and killed the pilot of a chopper as he was for no perticular reason flying low to the ground towards mr. Shinobi and it squished him?

What likely happened was that it was just one of BF2's many glitches. I know sometimes it displays that you Artillery killed someone even though you're not commander...

edit: This usually happens when you damage him but he ends up killing himself

I don't think it's a glitch, it's similar to when if you are say AT and shooting at a tank, and the driver bails just as you kill the tank, and the tank blows up causing the driver's death, you will get a kill that says you killed him with the tank.

So perhaps you hit a chopper along with the infantry, and the chopper was very low health and you pushed it to explosion, or the chopper was already about to explode and you just got a final shot on it therefor taking... "custody" of it's destruction. The pilot bailed but got killed by the explosion of his chopper.

Logic prevails over an unexplainable "glitch" any day.

That would be the case if he had shot at a chopper, but his situation as he explained it, was that he shot the guy at the chest but he lived after the shot.

My theory is the game glitched out on how to report the kill. An m95 shot to the chest would leave a sliver of health left for the victim (~2 bars of health) and my guess would be he died shortly after probably from fall damage somewhere. The game got screwy there and misplaced it as a heli kill. The situation I described isn't all that rare, I remember there's been many times when non-commanders got creditted with artillery kills (myself included).

Doesn't a sniper bullet keep going when it hits a player? There could have been a chopper directly behind the player in that path of the bullet.

I'm trying to figure out an explaination for the arty kill, but struggling...
 
Maybe he got squished by a pilotless chopper seconds later and the game still counted it as if you caused him to die (like sometimes when you shoot someone and he starts escaping and falls to his death - you get the kill, because after all you made him fall off).

Don't think so. The arty kill I know for sure it's a bug, it's been reported by many users as well that happened to them, it's pretty rare but it's happened.

That's possible but highly unlikely, I mean damn that's some kind of timing!
 
I am most certain that I shot him in the chest, I didn't hit any choppers.

Did it show the X after your shot? If you got points for the kill then you must've damaged it. The artillery bug I talked about earlier you don't even have to deal damage, sometimes the games just miscredits you for it (don't think it gives you points though).
 
Yeah the X showed up. He started shooting at me so I was running down the hill to go around and pick him off.

Shit. I wanted you guys to bicker and argue back and forth for pages worth in this topic, but you have uncovered my hax. :frown:

I made them myself and it allows me to take control of other players. Here, I made the gunner in the Cobra shoot that guy, but it gave me the kill because I controlled him! :O Please do not let word get out or I'll have my account deleted for sure!

What about that bug that makes a team mate look like an enemy? The skin is correct, but the name is red. When I first saw it, I was driving a jeep, and one of the dots in the area that shows who is in your vehicle and available spots, and one of the dots was red :laugh: So I was like, WTF? And I got out and shot him, and then it said I had teamkilled.

I hate that bug.
 
Me too, except that I always seem to be the guy thats shown as an enemy.

Yeah but it's a godsend if it shows you as blue to the enemy. T'is how I got my Basic Explosive Ordinance. The guys just sat there dumbfounded as the Medics kept reving their guys and I'm throwing C4 right onto their heads. :P
 
Hmm, I never thought about that, it would explain some rather funny incidents I've had.

I hate the red tag bug :|

I've killed about 4 teammates so far due to it.
 
I dont seem to be getting the red tag bug lately, its been good.

Unfortunately the server crashes more that make up for it. :flame:
 
That's DiCE for ya, fix something but for karma's sake they'll break something else. :|
