well, i just had an interseting few phone conversations trying to cancel AOL.

The first attmept: i got a nice Mexican lady who i could not understand. In order to cancel AOL i told her my wife (i don't have one) doesn't like it. (you can never cancel AOL w/o a marvelous excuse.. this one wasn't so hot) She continued on about how wonderful AOL is and she then gave me a free month and lowered my bill to $15 a month... i wasn't happy

The second attempt: i got an arabic man who i also could not understand... he asked me how i was 4 times before i said i was ok. I told him that my wife beats me and she wanted AOL gone and how that the last person i talked to didn't understand that. He went on about AlAnon and how i should get her to go there... or that i should "wring that bitch out to dry".... he then lowered my monthly bill to $9.95 a month and told me to have a safe evening... :dozey:

The third, and sucessful attempt: i got a black man who could speak perfect english (all prasies! :D) i told him how i was moving to poland cause it is my wife's motherland and that she wants to go back... he asked me if i knew if there was AOL in poland... i told him no, AMERICA Online isn't in poland. Neither of us talked after that... he finally told me the account will be closed on the 2nd of september to tie any loose strings before i move and to have a nice time in poland.

in conclusion... if you need to cancel AOL (or anything else for that matter), tell them you are moving to a foreign country :D

I am actually from Poland and that is the exact same excuse I had to use to cancel my subscription a few years back.

I received over a year of free internet with them as every time I called to cancel I would receive a free month.

hehehe classic... Welp, time to go wring that bitch out ta' drie don't ya think-
/me exits thread with firmly grasped frying pan in hand... "Oh honey, I just got off the phone with AOL"

Smack!

I had a very similar experience trying to convince them to cancel my own service way back in the when.

I don't know about the US, but if you specifically ask call centres not to call you again and they do call then you can take them to court and even sue them if you like.

Reading this kind of reminds me of this conversion I read a long time ago.

I think it is funny but people need to give telemarketers a break and I absolutely hate anyone that is a dick to the telemarketer. If you don't want something tell them no and that you want to be off their list. These people are simply doing their job which frankly isn't very easy (I did telemarketing for a short while) and you aren't making things any easier by being a dickhead.

tell that to sprint canada that seems to call me every single day ...I tell them no they still call ...I ask to speak to the manager they still call ..sorry at this point being rude is the only way they'll leave me alone ...I just say "no thanks" and hang up

all i got to do is keep saying no to all their offers and say I dont want to use your service anymore. took me like 10 to cancel mine the first time. first 5min is because i had to wait for a representative :x

Yeah, but that is the fault of Sprint, not the guy that is calling you. The guy that is calling you is connected automatically and has nothing to do with a shitty system in place.

but it's different people everyday ..I tell them that I asked to be taken off their list and a few times the person on the other end just kept reciting their sales pitch while I was talking!!! ...then I lost my temper

Well AOl should be free considering how crap it is. No actually i think THEY should pay US to use it, it sucks so much

I just stopped paying the bill once I got cable, saved me a lot of time to close an account.
