How to check GPU fan speed?

Im starting to fear that my 8800gtx fan is failing. I notice that it doesnt push any air out at all, and pushes very little air when gaming. Luckily i have a dualfan PCIe thingy right next to it that keeps it cool.

So is there any software that allows me to see the GPU fan speed?

Speedfan, I think.

Have you checked it for dust? Use compressed air.

Thanks, i tried it out. It doesnt specify which one the GPU fan is, but i assume its the first one. I cleaned it about 6 months ago with compressed air and a tweezer, but it barely had any dust in it, so i doubt its clogging it, or maybe i was looking in the wrong area.

Well....damn.

Jesus, you're in trouble. 16 RPM? lol. That's one rotation every 4 seconds. And an 80C idle temp? Hope you're ready to buy a new card.

Im scared. My screen has been getting very buggy too. It will often displace itself, like shifting to the side a few centimeters. It also starts to vibrate and shake for long periods of times, tho subliminally.

It has no problems running graphically intense games tho, so im not really sure how much longer it can stay alive.

Speedfan lies to me on many things. Try another source, Everest or rivatuner might also have that information (I know Everest does).

His card is clearly overheating, judging by the artifacts and glitches.

16 rpm though...that just hard to believe his computer is still on at all.

Well that's an average, maybe the fan is starting/stopping.

Well rather than investing in a new card it's probably worth investing in a cheaper solution - a custom HSF for a 8800GTX considering the fan on yours is failing.

It's a simple concept of unscrewing your current one (should be 12 screws on the bottom of the card - spring loaded), clean the GPU, reapply new thermal paste, install new cooler (comes with instructions), put back into PC.

It's worth investigating this route first as a new card is very expensive & you may be able to save your 8800GTX before you burn it into the ground.

edit: Best custom cooler for 8800GTX apparently is the Thermalright HR03, not too expensive either.

Which company brands your video card?
MSI, XFX, EVGA, Gigabyte

They usually have tools on the manufacturer's website for stuff like that.

For example, I use EVGA Precision for my GTX 470's fan speed and overclocking. MSI has Afterburner, and XFX and the others...I don't know, but they probably have something.

Its BFG, which just went bankrupt lol. Thanks for the tip Glenn, i would buy one if i had the money (yes, im THAT poor). Il just keep this card grinding till it dies, then kill myself, or prostitute myself for a new gpu.

You shouldn't be using it at all until you fix the fan. LMAO, you fool. "intense gaming". There's like flames shooting out of the back of your PC

that pci-e fan is probably the only thing keeping it alive.

Exactly. But I just like to be dramatic.\

By the way, it's not doing a good enough job though, if the GPU is 80 degrees C at idle.

If only you would have had the temps displayed on your KEYBOARD!

Also, my CPU runs cooler and the CPU fan runs at 1/4 that speed. I can't even hear the fan unless the blades hit me in the ear. (for example)
