Hi,
because the driver of my GPU has a annoying bug, it causes my PC to get a BSOD when some sort of echo/reverb sound is used, for example when starting a new game in Half-life 2(when Gman talks to you, and you can hear his voice echoing).

I won't give any other details about the problem(my GPU, driver version, BSOD info etc) because i've already done a lot of research about it and I don't want to get help with it here ;)

Well, most problem games(which cause a BSOD or crash) work fine when I completely disable sound rendering. Does anyone know a way to do this in half-life 2? I don't mean muting the sound but the whole rendering.

Sorry for my crappy English and thanks in advance. ;)

Try dsp_off 1. (Type in console)

Nope, it didn't help :(
Also, it didn't disable the sound(I loaded another chapter which didn't start with echo-sound, and all sound was still there)

To make sure it's not my fault(sucking at consoles), here is a shot of the console after using the command. I've also tried entering dsp_off instead ofdsp_off 1 but it also didn't help/disable the sound.

what sound card do you have? there might be an option that you just need to turn off and all will be fixed.

I got myself an USB sound card, and removed my PCI one. This fixes problem games(IE cod4, mirror's edge) which crashed when playing a video(not BSOD, just the games crashed)), but HL2 still gives the same BSOD :(

And, once again I won't provide information about which hardware i have, because I just need to know how to completely disable sound in HL2. I've already did a lot of research regarding the hardware/driver problem and I don't believe you guys can help me with it(no offense) ;)

You need help because your hardware is not working correctly with your software, yet you refuse to tell us what your hardware is, like it's some sort of life-ending secret that should be held onto until the grave. Seriously, what is even the point of withholding your specs from those trying to help you?

I'm sorry, but you're too stupid to get help, or even own a computer. Please hand it in to your nearest recycling centre, then go take up ping pong.

Shasta, shasta, shasta. Why do you keep coming back?

Sorry for the stupidty :( you're right. (whoever this IQ police guy is. Someone who was banned and re-registered?)

Well, here are my specs:
Asus A7N8X motherboard
Athlon XP 2800+ clocked @ 2.4GHz
1.25GB DDR
512MB ATI X1650 AGP
Flantronics(some cheap China crap) USB sound card. My PC also had an integrated Nforce2, but the sound it produces is very bad

With my previous GPU, an Geforce FX 5900XT it just worked fine. The PSU isn't the problem too, I replaced my 300Watt with an 400Watt but it didn't make any difference.
Also it handles Crysis on high settings without any problems, and Crysis is the most hardware-abusive game available :p

I've already read multiple websites about th problem, including this very interesting one.
But, that is not exactly the problem I have. I just get an BSOD on specific games at specific times.
I'll edit my post ASAP with a screenshot of the BSOD.

Well, I'm afraid the ppl here can't help me very much with the driver problem, so then I think I just need to disable the sound.

EDIT: I was recording a video of the problem to show it off, and guess what? it WORKED!
I think my USB sound card+omega drivers(which I re-installed yesterday) fixed the problem.

Thanks for all the help, this forum is amazing :)
