Ok so what the topic says, is there anyway I can go back to DX8, from DX9. I have a 5200 ;/ I got for 60 usd but I didn't know DX9 sucked with 5200.. Thansk

Theres no point.

The game will select DX8 mode for you.

from what i remember the whole point of Direct X was reverse compatibily w older HW , so your question is moot, just lower you settings ie.. resolution / refreshrate / eye candy / AA / filtering / lighting etc.. until your frame rate is playable .

i wish you would have thrown up a question about the card before you bought it.

Im not lowering it for HL2/DOOM3 just give my processor a little more room to breathe. Im getting a whole new comp for HL2/DOOM3

I have a 5200 also, and now I have a question. The 5200 is supposed to be Dx9, and I know it's too slow to run a dx9 game well. But in Halo, Jedi Outcast, and all my other games, even if I turn EVERYTHING all the way up (Yeah it's kinda slow but that's not the point) the game still doesn't look nearly as good as it should. I have Halo and Jedi Outcast on Xbox, so I know how they're supposed to look. I don't know what it is that's missing, one thing is the characters don't seem to look as good, they don't appear as rounded and don't seem to look as 3D. I can't run 1600x1200, my monitor only gets up to 1280x1024.

bosox Theres a option in the 5200 Control console that does this thing called Conformant Clamp see if thats enabled.

Its not your resolution, its simply the feature set of the card. Sure it supports DX9, but don't expect it to do half the stuff a better card would. It just doesn't have the power for some of those effects and the designers knew it.

I know it can't run the same features nearly as good. I just wondered what exactly was the reason other than it being slow.
