how to increase frame rate

i just got this game without checking the min. system reqs.

and my pc just about meets those reqs.{mind you the minimum and not the recommended ones}

but the framerate i get most is about 10-15 fps which sucks

so is there any way toimprove the framerate in the game.i just want playable framerate like 25-30 fps

celeron 2.4 ghz processor

1 gb ddr ram

64 mb onboard intel extreme graphics

40gb hdd@7200rpm

processor and ram are fine.but video is just not as extreme as it should be.and also don't suggest things like buying a new gfx card cuz that won't be happening for a long time

me's thinks that's your number one bottleneck...however that system sounds like it's about 3 years old

looks more like 4-5 years. you cant really improve framerate at all. you can try changing some settings but everytime ive changed them with onboard; hl2 crashes.

Unfortunately That intel extreme on board is really not good enough to play HL2 at any sort of playable framerate. The bare minimum requirement is a 32MB DX7.0 card while the intel one is only DX6.0. Sorry.

Don't expect it to help much. As Bulletbrain said, it's impossible to get decent framerates with that video card.

No, he means that your card only supports DX6.0 shaders.

All you can do is try to run the game at 640*480 and set all the settings to low. But I'm sure you already tried that.

Have you tried playing Episode One yet?
You may have problems with that if you haven't.

As for a new graphics card, they don't have to be that expensive. If you have an AGP slot, this one will play HL2 just fine (albeit with low settings).
