How to make DVD's into .avi etc.

I have few DVD's ( original ) and I'd like to make them into one single file, .avi so I can use them for my mp3 player. But I dont know how to do this, I only know how to copy the DVD files to the harddrive but then there are like 5-10 files

I want one single one like Mystupidmovie.avi

dvd shrink (Google it) is a really good ripping software with a lot of options.

My friend Innerlogic made a great tutorial post about that at the Allgames.com forum. Check it out here. It's actually about how to convert DVD footage into .gifs, but you have to change the DVD footage into an .avi file before changing it into a .gif file. I hope this helps!
