How to play source games in 1280 x 768 resolution?

the resolution is supported but it will still run in 4:3

Maybe I'm naive, but how can it run in a 4:3 ratio when the resolution is set 1280 x 768 (15:9)?

windowed. takes up 5/6ths of the screen vertically. helpful for watching aim convs in the remaining bar.

unwindowed, it (gasp) stretches.

Thanks for the replies. 1280 x 768 is the native res of a monitor I just ordered, but if it cant play in that res in true widescreen I guess I'll just put it at 1280 x 720 and have a little black-barness.

it will run in wide screen i think theres a 16:9 setting and something else
