How to plug in a new CPU

its easy as pie.

1) lift cpu recieving bar

2) remove old cpu

3) put new cpu in

4) lower cpu recieving bar

5) EAT pie.

and yes im calling it a recieving bar because i forget what its called.

hes GETTING it. he doesnt actually have it yet

No, I just read from the retailers website, that only professionals should do this etc etc etc.
I just thought it was more complicated?

Recieving bar? Do you mean the case?

frank its really easy. theres a socket, and on the outside of the socket theres a bar (which i refered to as a recieving bar, im not sure if its called htat or not). pull the bar up to take the cpu out, push it down to put the cpu in. any "professional" could do it as long as they know their ass from their elbow.

when all the pins in the cpu line up (follow the arrow in the cpu) you push it lightly onto the socket, then apply a little pressure (NOT TOO MUCH) and push down on the bar. viola ;)

:O What about the thermal paste, that's the hard part now aint it?

If it doesn't fit in, use a hammer with a laser sight

thermal paste.. just apply a pea sized drop to the cpu. the cpu should be covered in a thin layer of the stuff. artic silver 7 is a good brand. no biggie :)

Retail CPUs come with a hsf but do they also come with some thermal paste?

retail cpus come with thermal paste already applied.

be sure to apply crazy glue to the socket before putting cpu in

Also make sure that the corner of the cpu is lined up with the cornered bit of the cpu holder...if it does'nt just simply drop into it then it is the wrong way around (just look at the pins of the cpu...on one corner they will be diagonal)
