Im not asking for people to tell me "OMG just get a x800 like i did" or criticism.
Im not asking for people to dis it and brag about their better cards.
All im asking is for someone to tell me what kind of performance i can expect out of it for HL2.
Its a Geforce fx 5600 with 256 mb ram.

Shows that the fx 5600 is a little bit crap. You will get playable frame rates but only if you turn the detail etc right down.

The FX 5600 uses the same architecture as Geforce 4, AFAIK. It's basically a pimped up version of it. The nVidia FX line is not very good, so 5600 being a lower end card will give bad performances in DirectX 9 mode. Your best bet is to switch it to directX 8 mode for better performances.

No, the FX 5600 has a completely different architecture as the Geforce 4. A Geforce 4 and Geforec FX is not even comparable in terms of architecture.

Go search from the info from Valve thread. IIRC, somebody posted a email saying that the FX 5600 would have to run at DX 8 mode since DX 9 mode would be the equivalent of 10/20 FPS. This is the newest information we have about Geforce FX performance with the FX series.

I will say this: unless the rest of your system is high end, it could be a rough ride.
most of the benchmarks I see put the 5600 under the line of acceptable frame rates (30) for the new games coming out. Hey even my 5950 Ultra will be in trouble I think.
So we are looking at some hard choices. either we turn everything off to get the frame rate up over 30+, or we do a graphics upgrade. I myself am eying the 6800
128MB, it is already below $300, and I am pretty sure I can tweak/flash it into something much higher!

heh, funny.

Well, regarless of what these people tell you, you'll probably be albe to play perfectly fine on medium detial settings in DX8 mode. If you try and run it in dx9....well.... not so good. But it will be alright in dx8 mode.
