Hi. Just built my first PC..it sonsists of:
AMD SEMPRON 2200+
512MB DDR RAM
80GB HARD DRIVE
ATI RADEON 9800SE 256MB

I don't know as much as the other guys but Half-Life 2 has a really fast game engine. The game runs fantastic on my PC and mine isn't a good game PC.
You can always turn off some special effects and details to make up if it doesn't run as smooth as you would like.

Yeah no doubt.. just look at my system:
AMD Athlon 1333 mhz / 266mhz FSB.
384mb PC133 RAM.. reduces FSB to 133 mhz.
256MB Radeon 9550,Catalyst 5.1 Drivers.
Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer 5.1 w/ 4 speaker setup.
80 Gig Western Digital
Windows XP Proffesional w/SP2
All my Source games run at 800/600, Med/High Details. 16x Anistropic filtering and 6x Antialiasing. I only have a 14" moniter so resulution is good enough. Textures are at medium the rest is at high quality settings. Counter strike yeilds an average 46 FPS which is completely playable for me. Im not sure about HL2DM but it too runs fine. HL2 runs really good too, with the exception of occasional sound stuttering and minor slowdowns in huge firefights. A decent upgrade of DDR ram would likely fix this. Either way the game runs fine considering. Im not upgrading anymore.. just gonna get a new pc soon.

Well its mixed, i had an Athlon XP 2600+ Barton and a 9200 XT 256mb ram card, and hl2 lagged quite alot in battles, i think it was actually the processor tho.
Now i got my 3400 and a 6600GT OC and it runs like a beaut, need more memory to have sound on high though (everything else maxed)
