Bizarrely, when Doom 3 came out there were tons of threads like this about this internet, but I've not seen any here - so I hope I haven't missed something and am pissing people off when it turns out theres already the answers I need out there.
Anyway, my machine is basically like this:
Athlon XP 3000+
1024mb RAM (dual channel 512)
and err... a Geforce 4 ti4200.
I guess its the graphics card where my PC falls down. I can run Doom 3 just about at 640x480 medium setting and anti-aliasing on but HL2 looks like the kind of game where you really want to run it at a decent res (lots of objects at distance where everything in Doom 3 was fairly close up so res doesnt matter so much) and I would like it running at a better frame rate than I was getting Doom at.
I did a spec check at Microsoft's 'Windows XP Game Advisor' site and their readings gave me a bit below recommended spec, but somewhat above minimum spec, but then went on to shove an advert in my face about how I should get an ATi graphics card, which made me think the whole thing was rather untrustworthy (Microsoft? Untrustworthy?!?).
Anyway, back to the point - how well will my machine run HL2, whilst still looking good?
