Hi,

I am thinking about getting HL2 for Christmas and am wondering how well my machine will run it.

here are its specs:

2.1 Ghz AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 Megs of ram (I'm thinking of getting an an upgrade to 768 or a gig - also, 64 Megs are set aside for the video card)
64MB nVidia GeForce 4 MX

Thanks for your ideas,
William

it will run, but no pretty watter effects and the lighting will be crappy. If your interested in those, I'd suggest getting a radeon 9600xt instead of the ram.

I have those exact specs except my processor is a 2400+, other than that, rest is the same. I have to say that the game ran very comfortable and there is little to no lag. Although some areas can get a little laggy, it won't be anything that can make you stop playing the game. The only thing is that you won't see all those nice effects and what-not.

Sounds pretty good. Dumb Dude, what resolution are you running the game at?

Thanks again.

Speaking of PC Specs... I just got my 2.4! And OC'ed it to 2.6! Yay!

Again, yes, you need a new video card.

Alrighty, I'm gonna go buy the game this weekend, see how it runs on my box, and go from there.

I've had some bad experiences with ATI in the past, so I'm really looking at the nVidia GeForce 6600. I've heard on the net that with my pre-built HP Pavilion a220n, upgrading to such a card would also make me buy a new psu as well (ugh..). Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have a
2400+
256mb ram
geforce 4 64mb mx440-se

Runs great, 1024x768 default settings. fps never dropped below 30. Going to upgrade asap tho, i want to see the nice graphics.

you must be usin the lowest settings possible then, cuz there is no way your fps dont drop bellow 30, cuz I got a 9800pro and my fps drop below 30 all the time..

I have:

1.3 ghz
256 mb ram
geforce 4 mx440

and i run it in 1024*768 / medium details, no antialaising, shadow detail low, no water reflection, no shader, but it still looks good, besides the water =)

I have some screens played on my specs, the water is nasty i know, but it looks better on water hazard acturally

^and what type of fps are we looking at here? any lagging?

i got a .787 processor with 512 ram and 32 (i think) mb video card
and it is barely playable. on lowest settings with lowest resolution...
