I have yet to pick up HL2 because I dont know how my computer will perform with it.

Here is what I have.

AMD AthalonXP 2500
512 MB 3200 ram
GeForce3 TI200 128mb video card
Windows XP (with desktop themes and all that other memory bogging asthetics stuff turned off for faster performance)

Anybody have any ideas about wether or not my system will handle it?

Thanks! :-)

It might be okay if you don't full foul to the stutter/crash problem effecting an esitmated 45% of all half Life players (Not my figures by the way).

45% is in fact inaccurate.

Your system will run fine, people are playing with less. You just can't play with all the pretty graphics unless you upgrade the video card. Most are upgrading to a radeon 9800 pro, cheap upgrade for big boost in performance. My 9700 pro plays fine on high-medium settings.

It'll run smoothly in DirectX 8. However, HL2 was designed in DirectX 9, so you will miss some of the prettier graphics. Water effects especially.

Your best upgrades, in order of the performance gain, would be:

1. Faster video card - by far most important, I had a Geforce 3 Ti until fairly recently, and it was really starting to show its age with these newer 3d games.
2. More RAM - 1 GB is ideal for current games like HL2, Far Cry, and Doom 3.
3. Faster processor - Athlon XPs aren't bad, but they do lag behind P4C/E/EE and Athlon 64/FX processors. And HL2 is fairly processor intensive compared to other games.

Your system will run HL2 OK, just at lower detail and resolution.

Thanks guys! You gave me exactly what info i needed! I will do RAM and vid card first. Someday down the line I will do the processor.

Thanks again.
