How would Valve have handled the whole "Nvidia DX9 Issues" if Nvidia had won the bid?

The GeforceFX 6500 (NV38) now shipping exclusively with Half Life 2!

How could that have worked if ATI had backed out of the bidding process, or Nvidia upped the ante considerably, such that Half Life 2 would be "The Way It's Meant to Be Played"? HDR tech would be out, DX9 mode being 60% (ballpark) DX8. I would *not* want to be the marketing person trying to spin that. Would Valve have spent even *more* time than they already have on making Cg optimized code?

Um..it's very simple actually. Just mirror everything around...;)

they wouldnt be, valve said they went with ati becuase of their better performance, so far the entire "bidding rumour" has come from the inquerior site, and rumours they have recived from "NVIDIA" so... take your own guesses.

Valve would only have gone with nVidia if this issue weren't extant/known. This issue is WHY they went with ATI.

Both companies offered similar bids (as far as I know), and Valve only went with ATi because of the performance they saw in game.

I don't put too much stock in that whole bidding thing that the Inquirer is talking about. There is no evidence to support this claim other than the person who keeps writing about it on that site. Hell, Valve even created a DX9 mixed-mode for Nvidia FX hardware so it would perform better in the DX9 tests. To me that shows that Valve is not biased on which hardware is better, it's just that ATI's cards perform better. Bottom line.

Well thanks for clearing that up, I could have sworn I read about ATI and Nvidia before the Inquirer publicity.

The Inquirer have said that ATi responded by saying that both bids reached $6 million and then Valve chose one.

This fits in with what Valve were saying (about choosing ATi over NVidia).

well its very simple you see I've even come up with a simple formula

ATi = teh r0x0r
Nvidia = teh sUX0r

Who wants to help me build a time machine and tell myself to buy a 9800 instead of a 5900?
