?I?ve talked to some developers who are saying ?If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free?. We don?t make any money when someone rents it, and we don?t make any money when someone buys it used - way more than twice as many people played Gears than bought it.?

So basically, he's saying you'll have to buy the ending, or a boss fight if you rent/bought a used copy. That's if this is actually executed, which I seriously doubt.

Huh? They don't make any money when someone rents the game? Yes they do, the store that is renting out the game bought the god damn copy.

ok, we could just youtube the ending instead then?

this solves **** all

The Games industry is turning into a hulking paranoid wreck. That said, this is Epic talking yet again, and they're basically the Metallica of Game Development. Seeing outright theft everywhere they don't get another $60 for sale of their legacy titles. The glass is always one eighth empty at Epic and they need to stop pretending they're programming games out of Bleszinski's basement using revenue generated from Lemonade sales on the front lawn.

Yep, this totally wont promote piracy. Nope, not at all.

Again, more raping of the good consumer for people who will simply pirate the ending as well.

That's ridiculous. Hah. I can't believe that shit.

I want to be your steam friend.

Not cool.

But how much are they losing on each copy? The video store only buys it because they know they'll make a profit on it. Not that I'm against rentals or anything.

But how much are they losing on each copy?

I'll give you an exact figure.

$0.00

When someone rents, borrows, pirates a game the publisher/developers do not lose a single cent. You cannot lose money in this fashion. You might wish to talk about potential sales but then you'd need statistics to back you up, and those numbers are as fake as a forum poll.

This is no different to renting a movie and that industry is doing just fine. The video game industry is doing fine. The idea is retarded. The game ending is a part of the product it is not a bonus of any kind. A second hand copy should be identical to retail in that respect.

Erm, you guys are aware that he's not saying Epic are planning to use that system or even supports it, right?

God, read what the **** he says.

And the mere fact the idea was even brought up should make you want to rage.

Whether Epic is doing this or not, I still hate them.
