I didn't originally plan on building a completely new PC but I couldn't help myself. I'm eagerly waiting to submit an order, just want to double check and make sure I'm good to go. I already have CD/DVD drives.

Cooler Master HAF 922 - $110.00
Samsung F3 1 TB 7200 - $65.00 Intel X25-M SSD 80GB - $179.00
PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 - $340.00
XFX Black 750W - $130.00
G. SKILL Ripjaws 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 - $50.00
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz - $329.00
MSI P67A-GD65 B3 P67 - $190.00
Cooler Master Hyper 212 - $30.00
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - $100.00

Total around $1,500.00

I was going to wait for the Ivy Bridge but that could be a while and I need a fast PC again.

thoughts?

Have they fixed the SATA problems with the 2600 compatible mobos? I know they recalled and pulled a lot of them off the "shelves" due to major problems with them. I remember checked a week or two on Newegg and they still hadn't put them back up.

Looks good. The power supply is a bit overkill unless you're planning on going crossfire in the future. If that's the case I would suggest getting the 6950 instead.

I would personally consider scrapping the SSD from that list and investing on (even) more RAM instead.
Think about it: Windows 7 has this awesome sleep mode that uses like 5 watts on most PCs, and allows you to get back all your stuff in 2 seconds so you don't have to worry about startup times. With a lot of RAM you can just leave all your common programs open(if you don't mind having a crowded taskbar), combined with sleep mode and no paging file that should beat pretty much every SSD(in terms of time spent waiting for stuff to load) for a lot less.

SSDs are also pretty well-known for being unreliable longterm. They all have definite read-write limits that will be reached eventually.

Nah, I wouldn't go down in PSU. 500 Watts seems a little low for for his stuff, and certainly would be an issue if he wants to add in extra stuff later. I'd stick with 750, but I personally would get this one instead. I agree with dropping the SSD though. I wouldnt buy one until the tech has matured a bit more, and theyre still just too expensive for what you get.

Yeah well the point is he should go with Corsair :p

That XFX thing looks way overpriced.

Speaking of overpriced, I'd go with G.Skill over anything. You're literally paying for the name here, not the timings or voltage. Also, I think this round the hand is in favor of NVIDIA. I'd pick up a GTX570 over the 6970. It's also cheaper.
