How's this game doing?

Sales wise? This type of info interests me with all games, but you don't often hear announcements of pc games sales figures.

You know, it might be pretty interesting to recieve a statistic or something of the likes from Valve or Vivendi. I mean, we all know it's "down the crapper", but how "down the crapper"?

Is it actually doing badly? Maybe the sales figures have gone down because everybody has it already.

good question..would be interesting to see. It's probably a best seller for all games along with sims 2, world of warcraft, halo 2 and grand theft auto: sa.

well HL1 got a huge boost after Counterstrike became the must play game. This time everyones played it but perhaps when the mods start being released HL2 will sell some more copies. Also dont forget alot of people bought the game online.

Id be interested to see the figures, I imagine it did well but and i'm sure valve will make a nice packet licencing out the source engine.

HL2 sold enormously. Retail sales were down (although still higher than most average PC games) due to a huge amount of people buying via Steam.

It's sat at or near the top of the sales charts in most shops around here. Whatever that means in actual terms of sales I do not know.

Doug said he expected it to sell well, but not this well, there's no point in lying about that (Valve has no shareholders to please) so I believe that.

I also remember a large webshop specifically mentioned HL2 as a major seller during christmas.

On top of that, CSS has 40 thousand players at any given time, which is huge for any online shooter, 4x bigger than CZ which sold 1 million iirc.

Besides, pretty much everyone I know who is into pc gaming, bought it, even the biggest warez people.

I read the retail says were around 450,000 probably more now and steam preorders were around 2 mill.

Just as an FYI, halo 2 has just recently sold 6.4 million units, so that's probably the ballpark figure for HL2 (very ball-park).

EDIT: Looking at other people's figures, maybe that's more then HL2's sold.

Yeh, I can imagine retail sales taking a huge hit due to Steam. Most people I know bought it from Steam.

Shouldn't it be pretty easy to get the EXACT sales figures of Half-Life 2 by counting all the Steam accounts. You would think the Steam statistics are saved somewhere, just like any forum on the net shows the current amount of registrations.

(By they way, I just realized halflife2.net has about 41,000 registrations, which I think is quite a lot.)
