I'm loving it:

STEAM CLIENT CHANGES / ADDITIONS:
  • Improved error messages when Steam system is busy
  • Improved error messages when login fails
  • Improved ability to monitor system performance
  • Improved startup times
  • Improved cache loading behavior for single-player games
  • Added features for CyberCafes
  • Improved use of large cache files
  • Keep local account information more up-to-date
  • Improved response to ContentServer connection loss
  • Improved server communication
  • Improved command-line handling
  • Added opt-out options for marketing messages via the Settings dialog
  • Changed monitor to show games instead of caches
  • Smoothed out monitor bandwidth usage display
  • Added "browse games" button -- opens storefront

The 'storefront' is particulary interesting, check it out and you'll see why. It could be more streamlined tbh - in particular, the 'induvidual games' sections could be added to the first page of the new install game wizard.

This is a great update; Steam is heading towards what it should be.

It does look better now, but I wonder if we have to register our CD keys again. I bought Condition Zero through Steam so I don't have one :dozey:

My question concerned registration, as opposed to whether or not I could play it.

Smoothed out monitor bandwidth usage display:

Since when does 'smoothed out' mean completley removed?

It isn't removed, it's not in the menu though, you have to rightclick the steam icon to find it.

Basicly they removed all those unusable parts of the monitor.

I wonder if they'll be making some kind of multiuser support since we have to know it's "My games (email)"

Pretty annoying they don't add CS in the VPP though.

Looks like they're preparing steam for CSS though. Cafe additions, support for large GCF files, ect. We'll be lucky to see it in the next two weeks, though.

Interresting Steam has it's own URI handler.

Try typing in "steam://run/10" in your browser(might only work with IE)
Others are steam://purchase and steam://install

Some of the purchase options says "specified subscription not available for credit card purchase" :p

nice comment in the code

The protocol has always been there, but it's good that they've now registered it with browsers other than IE. :)

This doesn't seem to work:
Code:
// Disable right mouse click Script
// By Maximus ([email protected]) w/ mods by DynamicDrive
// For full source code, visit [url]http://www.dynamicdrive.com[/url]

And finally, this is what a discount looks like (I just uncommented Fisker's code)

Hehe btw update news(expanding dates) also works now because of the update :p

LOL the discount one is cool!

Anyway, good the see things moving along. Though i'd hope that the beta would start preloading tomorrow, like the rumors have said. But it seems as though it won't.

i still have faith in valve to preload tomorrow! although this is the last chance im gonna give them. if they dont release it tomorrow then im not gonna believe another date they say, until i can actually see it with my own two eyes. (so nur :p)

Great update!

My faith in the preload tommarow is high

Hopefully soon they will make the third party games downloadable through steam.

I like the "Improved use of large cache files" wich suggests preloading of HL2

If they did that, why not make them official too? That's exactly where most of the mods on that page are heading.

... most of the mods on that page? Not quite. I can only see maybe 4 of the 16 mods on that page going official.

Anyway, if I remember correctly, they did say that 3rd party mods would eventually be available for download through Steam.

That would be awsome, anyone know if they'll add more on their third party lists? Or are they only showing the more popular ones? I could think of a few worthy to be there (They-Hunger comes to mind).

It was fixed now, but i was expecting an answer from Gabe :p i wrote it to him.

Apparently they also forgot to insert the pictures again though. so now there's neither discount or normal classes :p

And they also fixed rightclick :(

Edit: But now clicking on the expand buttons in update news work.

not sure if anyone has noticed yet, but steam has been updated again. not a big deal, but it's now possible to launch the 3rd party mods from steam. you still can't download them through the browser, though. makes sense. why would valve want to use server space for a 3rd party mod?
