i don't get it, i mean ok 6xAA can kill it all it wants but 2xAA causing a genuine slideshow can not be normal. i have everything on high with 16xAF in 1280x1024 and it is smooth as butter as long as i dont touch the AA.

driver is latest omega.
anyone in the know?

I've said it a dozen times that Anti-aliasing requires a shit-load of processing

I know this becuase I used to have a 44 Mhz (before pentium) and it would make my system busy for at least 20 seconds before it would apply anti-aliasing to a photo.

Of course you don't have a 44 mhz computer, but the fact remains its a lot of processing to figure out what pixels to change thier color, and IMO who would sacrifice a huge frame rate cut in a game for the not-so-important illusion that it can produce

I only use it for Photos

I'm sure someone else has something to say that you would rather hear.

AA at 1024 would be a much more reasonable performance hit than at 1280 res. Also, do you have Vsync enabled?

i go the same with my 2.8E. i just keep it off . . . for now. soon enough il be o/cing then il try again.
you could try lowering ur AF

AA 2x used to almost half the frame rates on my old G4 Ti-4400, its FAR more intensive than 16x AF.

You should stick to that resolution with the 9800 Pro, but have 2/4x AF, and 2x AA. I played HL2 on 1650x1050, with 4x AF and 2xAA and that was the highest I could go before unenjoyable frame rates kicked in

i don't have vsync on, and when i put aa i don't lose frame rate it just kills it, total slide show. even the menu is unnavigatable. i tried with no AF and it changes nothing.
maybe its just my card thats too old too.

Hmm I dont know why it does that however. Maybe it is the drivers - but i used the Omegas and I never encountered it. Hmm, maybe some random error.

it must be the drivers because one of my computers i play hl2 on which doesn't have as good hardware as your computer [except for the video card, it has a 9800 xt] and it runs fine with 6aa/16af in 1024x768, everything else on high.

i'm using the newest official drivers, 5.2 or something.
