ancient, inhumane passtime?
or does it have its place? [keep in mind the topics title]

discuss.

ps. please dont turn this into an iraq war thread

No, hunting for pleasure is just plain wrong. The only things that makes hunting okay are

A)if the animal is used for food
B)if hunting is only done to the point where it thins out the animals' numbers, preventing them from becoming overpopulated, therefore becoming diseased and throwing off the natural balance.

I'm assuming people hunt because it's a power trip/phallus massager type activity? It makes them feel powerful as an animal goes limp from a bullet?

Pretty derranged if you ask me.

Though if you have to do it to survive, i have no problem with it.

i hunt. i typically only shoot once at something, because i feel if i miss it has the right to live. i suppose its the...challenge? its a very strange feeling killing something large, like a deer. its deranged i know, but its life. and yes.. i dont just leave the corpse of something i shoot in the middle of nowhere, i eat it.

I think pleasure hunting is ok, sometimes even necessary. For instance in many parts of KY deer population if left unchecked will cause traffic accidents and property damage.

Killing something just because you enjoy "the hunt" seems quite wrong to me. There is something serial killer-like about it.

What? I am only waiting for my chance to hunt criminals!! whats wrong with that?

Hunting is stupid.

Hunter with high-powered rifle, camoflague, and the latest high tech gadgets

vs.

Clueless animal.

Huh?

Oh, and what about hunters who use crossbows?

AND, if I'm not mistaken, some states require that you wear a bright orange vest so that you don't get shot when you're hunting.

Naw, dude...that ain't how the hunters down here do it, at least. Down here, we get a six pack and a shotgun and just walk into our backyards.

the hunt ois what made man the top animal, more meat, bigger brains. by saying hunting is sick if its for pleasure(it is), thats like saying having sex for pleasure is wrong.

more advanced the brain is, the more reasons the brian has to make to do something needed to survive

Man supported himself with hunting for food. It was a necessity. Chowing down on a burger at McD's before going off to shoot a deer is not.

And having sex didn't kill anything.

I personally don't agree with hunting for pleasure.

give the animal a gun and the capacity to use it and then you'll be on even terms. As it is now, it's one sided slaughter that serves no purpose except destroying your kharma (not that you would appreciate that) ...it doesnt surprise me that you are who you are gh0st

Just wondering, honestly, what makes you think you have the right to make the first shot? Man does like a challenge, yes, but how about challenging yourself to run a mile in so-long-a-time, or writing a book, or completing ravenholm in 2:28 (or wateva it is). I know I sound a bit aggressive, to be honest I feel I should be, but in this instance I'm just wondering.

The idea of eating it raises my thoughts on you - you clearly do see it as a natural thing. And hell, if you didn't shoot the dear, you'd just buy one pre-slaughtered from the mall right? Seriously, although I disagree with killing other animals for the 'fun' or 'challenge' of it, something clearly embroidered in human nature, I certainly don't view what you do as being evil in any way. Neutral, I'd say. Fair play to you.

PS, brave to say you kill animals with all us crazy lefties about :p

i ahve no problem for hunting just as long as the body gets used, and for more than the trophy on the wall

I think its sick and serves no purpose if for sport. Whenever I see something like that I always think of the serial killers on death row. Same thing just different species.

oh stern, you must think i go into the forest with a fully automatic M4 with 30rd magazines, a huge sword, and a rocket launcher. i use an antiquated bolt action rifle, more likely to explode in my face and kill me instead of what im shooting at. it is indeed one sided slaughter, but when you consider (as stated earlier) that youre wearing a bright orange vest with camo pants (i just wear a regular sweatshirt or coat) and sunglasses, the art of stalking becomes much more important, and requires the use of your senses. and if you think bigger animals are defenseless.. you are horribly mistaken.

and no, i dont give a **** what some hindu god thinks about me.

i can run very fast, i dont particularly enjoy writing those amounts, and ive already beaten hl2. why not do something that changes every time you do it, requires quick reflexes and a sharp wit? my right to do so is that id simply be eating it anyway, as you said, only in this case the animal is given a much greater chance.

i dont think its evil either. i feel sorry for them... its a very strange hypocrisy. sort of indian in nature, i just feel bad.. but i feel its a necessity almost. thanks for pointing out that people who think its wrong to hunt and eat it, that youre just making it harder, giving the animal more of a chance, not simply get spiked in the back of the skull. stern, keep eating your cheeseburgers, it truley is no less evil.

you dont taste as good :E

Like it or hate it, the need to want to "hunt" something is probably built into every human (well, male humans at least).. I would say its instinct, but still, as Dr. Breen says.. Instinct is bad now, or something :p hehe
