It's definitely real, I've seen it. Only works with some people tho.
 
If it's so real, then how come we aren't using hypnotism to elicit honest answers from criminals, or tell fat people they will no longer indulge in junk foods or lazy people will become motivated and make unorganized people organized?

...or can you only hypnotize people to bark like dogs or play tag with invisible people?
 
obviously some aspects of it are real, however most of those "magic tricks" involving hypnotism are bs.

Its not real. People just play along with what the hypnotist tells them to do. Thats why you cant make somebody do something that they dont want to or would not do, like killing someone or whatever.
edit: and remember, top gear is scripted.

Again, if these men have the power to make willing people do whatever they say, how come all we make them do is run around in circles for the amusement of a Vegas crowd?

Hypnotism is definitely real, there's no true debate. The hard part is telling if someone is actually hypnotized or just lying.

you can't just make a statement like that when you have no proof and all logical thought is against you.

I've seen it and talked to the people who were hypnotized afterwards. I doubt all of them were lying to me. One admitted that he wasn't really hypnotized tho.
 
Real or not, I've seen it happen to my mom during one of those hypnotism comedy things.

Your mom was willingly playing along.

It's simply a state of mind where you choose to play along as it feels like the right thing to do. You're don't think you're a chicken because you really think you're a chicken, you think you're a chicken because you were told you were a chicken, and so you act it out.
 
People become hypnotized because they want to. They are able to get into the trance because they act like they are- believe they are. So, if you don't then you won't.

Because it's very hard to hypnotize someone unless they're a) relaxed or b) know what's going on an allow the hypnotist to wave a watch in front of them for five minutes.

Watch Derren Brown, that'll make you believe :D
 
I personally believe Hypnotism is as real as Magic...

But then again, I've never been tried to become hypnotised...so I can't say 100% \=

I really don't know a lot about hypnosis, so i can't give a answer.
 
I'm a hypnotist, I can do stage and theraputic hypnosis. Not to a level where I would practise thearpy yet, that would be un-ethical, but I hope to one day.

There are many myths about hypnosis, often we get the wrong impression from TV shows and the like.

All hypnosis does is relax someone, thats the first bit. It relaxes you to a point where you can stop analsying whats being said and just accept it, a similar state to what an under 9 year old is in, its called the alpha state. But we go deeper in hypnosis.

Hypnosis cannot work without the cleints consent. You can do alot of things that look like hypnosis, Derren Brown for instance, I'm not going to deny there is some psychological parts of it, but most of it is just magic.

As long as a hypnotherapist has the absolute trust of the client, hypnosis can begin. The hypnotist cannot make the cleint do something they don't want to do, the clients aware all the time of whats happening, although amnesia after they wake up can happen.

You sir are a prime example of what these super men with hypnotic attacks cause people to beleive.

If anyone still doesn't belive I'll make a short hypnotic MP3, which makes your arm stick to the chair or something like that, simple but shows the power of hypnosis. As long as your willing to let me stick your hand to the table/make fatty foods revolting then I can, all it requires is trust (and a qualified hypnotherapist, of which I am not and so will not do anything theraputic on anyone).

Hope I've clarified some things.
 
I'm pretty sure it's real. It would've been exposed like wrestling/magic by now if it was fake. I've never seen a show like "Hypnosis: Exposed", because it's real.

Hypnosis is of course real but it doesn't work like most people think it does.

Hyptotism is real, because I've been hypnotised (Paul McKenna came to Crawley once). It's not like falling asleep, and you acting bits out in your sleep. It's more of a "Yeah, you know what, that's a really good idea." type of thing. The stuff the hypnotist says just starts sounding really reasonable.

Sortof. But your aware that its not real, but your willing to belive it is.
