That's the news headline I saw this morning.

Then I come online:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/upi/?feed=TopNews&article=UPI-1-20060104-07102400-bc-us-mine-2ndld.xml

I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is for their families, eugh.

Saw it on CNN.

Call me a monster, but except thinking how sad it would be for the families, I was relatively unmoved. :=

Heard it on th eradio this morning.. at first I didn't know wth they were talking about, I thuoght they were saying "minors", then I remembered something on the news yesterday. It got a "oh, that sucks". damn my apathy D:

Yeah, right, I was checking up on BBCnews and saw this. The familys are ****ing furious.

i never feel moved by these news death stories, i just pity them.

Idiots.

Would be nice if they get their facts straight before plastering lies on the front pages.

Wasn't their mistake, it was the rescue teams'.

Mainstream ftl. I wonder how they'll explain that mistake... "IT WAS VIDEO GAMES! I PLAYED GTA: HEADLINES AND KILLED THE POINT OF NEWS! ZOMG RELIGION!"

I'd lol if I would read a headline saying:
VIDEO GAME KILLS 12 MINERS
Rescue worker plays Mario, does not hear pleas for help

But currently it isn't a laughing subject D:

The press was going off what information they had, and what they knew. It is a shame, though, that the paper still went out even after the correct information was brought to light. :(

Bullshit it was miscommunication, how hard is it to say 1 person, and ONLY one person, is alive

Oh shit! That really sucks...stupid press. My prayers go to the families.

Why is it the presses fault? They can't do anything about it, most newspaper firms were printing the papers when they found out about the tragedy.

At first, I thought this was a thread to help cope with depression... I need one of those.

Argh..thats a damn shame. Heard it this morning, and really didn't think much of it tbh.

It wasn't just the press. I heard the story on NPR- the mayor went around celebrating and everything. Apparently, one misheard comment, or something like that, led to a plethora of misinformation.

Well the Families were all wound up, waiting for something to come through.

But still very sad.

You know whats kind funny about that paper, news hit at about 3:30-4am that indeed only ONE survived, that newspaper is slow. BTW I was watching it last night, if I was one of the family members I'd be pissed too they let the families believe all but 1 were alive for about 4-5 hours(11pm-3:30 or 4am).

As much of a tradgedy this is, I'm kind of sick of hearing about it. I know a lot of you guys don't life in the states, but over here, it's the ONLY THING any news show is covering. All they do is cover the same story, over and over, and never add any new information about it.

Because 12 miners dying here is much bigger news than a dozen people (soldiers and civilians) dying in Iraq every day! :bounce:

And yes it's sad, but that's life. I don't know, we Americans are so weird. Every day how many people die in this stupid war and we get all worked up over 12 guys stuck underground. Mining is mining... what do we expect? Everyone to just be safe under a mile of Earth? :O

It's because we have to feel connected to the tragedy; and what better than to have it close to home? We are too far away from Iraq to care anymore. That said, the families must feel really betrayed and awful. Yuck.

3000 people are killed in Chinese mines each year. I fail to see how these 12 American deaths are more important than the 3000 Chinese.

I was watching the news and saw when the were misinformed about the miners being alive, everyone started to praise god and jesus. When they found out they were dead no-one asked why jesus was playing tricks on them, the joker.

Because they're American. Know what I mean?

And China is a Communist nation. What do you expect?

I used to go to work at 4:30 AM and the paper deliverywoman would already be dropping off the paper.

You know how many people were killed in last year's tsunami? That many people die of AIDS something like EVERY TWO MONTHS in Africa. However, Americans are the only people who matter in America... :/

The good news: the other 99.9999999% of the population of the Earth survived the incident. Why don't we get a story on that? BREAKING NEWS: Approximately 6 999 999 988 Survive Tragic Mining Accident, Onlookers Cheer
