I can't install new drivers on my laptop

I've got a HP Pavilion dv7 - 2174ca with a Radeon 4650 HD 1gb card, and my drivers are still from October 2009. Basically, HP designed the laptop so I can only get driver updates from them, not from ATI. The worst part is that HP hasn't updated their drivers since October 2009. First of all, I can't even really uninstall the driver - I can only update it. Despite that I've tried to uninstall the driver without rebooting, then downloading the newest Catalyst from ATI's website and using Mobility Modder to make the driver show up in the list of installable software, but it didn't work.

Anyone have experience with this and know how to go around it?
