i cant run or test my maps

i press run and it compiles some of the map and stops at the bit where it says somthing about the hl2.exe i think it maybe to do with the bit on the configuration settings box where u put the link to the hl2.exe file because when i double click on the hl2.exe file it doesnt open up hl2 because it only opens it through steam. does anyone know what to do?

to the best of my knowledge you can really start making HL2 maps yet, you'll have to wait for the full SDK to be released. However, you can map for CS:S

After you do that, there is a way to test your maps in HL2. Just compile your map and move the .bsp over to your hl2/maps dir.
There will be some obvious problems with textures and some models as HL2 won't have all the same textures and models. But for the most part, it will run alright.
