As far as classic rock goes, Genesis seems to get passed over often, same for Supertramp, some great 70's rock there.

Genesis and Supertramp are very well regarded with the prog./art rock fans but like most prog./art rock bands they tend to be forgotten in favour of the more pop orientated bands, not to say that is a terrible thing but 10+ minute songs that are polyrhythmic/tonic, varying in music style and dabbling into philosophy, mythology and various other ideas via metaphor don't tend to sell as well on the charts as the simple love song. Genesis is interesting because we see a change from the art rock band to the prog. rock and then into the pop band with the departure of Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel. Great music though and I commend you on your taste (attempts to say that without looking like a pompous musical snob).
