Yeah, you might be thinking "why does he not like these cool aliens". simple answer is: 'they are out of character'. first of all they sound like Frank Oz when he is doing the voice acting for Yoda, I preferred it when they were in HL when they sound croaky, like they had flem stuck in the back of their mouths.

Okay, it has been 10 years in relative game time since you fought them last, but come on, they hve mastered the game of chess and human cooking. I'm nearly 20 and yet I'm still crap at both.

I like them using 'The' when using some ones name and that, but I would of liked them using talking with an accent, if nobody can hear what they are saying, use the dialogue option.

What did you like/dislike about them?

Yeah, the vortigaunts were like out of some cheesy scifi-movie. The speach was just too human.

I liked 'em. Their voices did strike me as off when I first heard them. However, I noticed something. Sometimes when they're finishing off a sentence, their voices tend to change back into that sort of croakiness you're talking about. Interpret that however you will.

The vortigaunts also seem to have a fairly high degree of intelligence, at least judging from your one-sided conversations with them. I don't see it as impossible that they'd be able to pick up human activities with relative ease.

Like when we went to their world and bunny hopped on platforms with relative ease :D

Well they obviously had a world not un-like ours, until the Xen creatures/(combine?) came and took over and enslaved them (much like what might happen if the combine aren't defeated on earth?). they are clearly as smart as us, so why shouldn't they talk a bit off. They were awesome in my opinion.

plus, they had 10 YEARS to learn human speech as a collective mind...

They shouldn't have any problems finding the right partner back on their world ay :naughty:

Shame we don't have the same hive mind

When I was in the Vortigaunt camp, I heard a couple of Vortigaunts speaking in their native language, and they had that croaky voice that you mentioned earlier. Then, when I got close to them they said "The Freeman must forgive us, it is impolite to commune in the Vort(something I couldn't hear) in the presence of those who cannot. From now on, we will use your language when speaking, unless we wish to say unflattering things about you."

I think that the Vortigaunts only speak English they way they do so that the resistance can understand them.

Edit: That's not the exact quote, seeing as how I can't remember it. But that's the gist of it.

I remember this quote as well... for me it was the "money shot" in terms of linking the vg's of HL1 to those of HL2.

vorts remind me of those native aliens in Outcast game. they also spoke of some 'essence', looked a bit similar (especially their limbs) and treated you like a messiah.
heh, now that I think of it there are even more similarities between both games...

on topic - I liked them, were reminding me of BM. also everytime I saw a vort felt kinda sorry fo the hundreds I killed in HL1 :naughty:
and those cooks in BMEast were kinda funny. even expected them to be preparing headhumpers for dinner :p

Same here. If you you keep on using one of the vortigaunts, they something like "You have killed many of us. Forgiveness is not ours to bestow.", so they clearly also remember quite well.

I remember in the alpha, when you could actually shoot your allies, that when you pissed off the vortigaunts, they'd say "Remember Black Mesa!" while they charged up to shoot you.

THe Vorts are working for the same group as the G-Man, this is clearly shown in the game. Whether they are once again slaves or acting freely is another matter.

The vortigaunts were perfect, afterall they have been on earth ahwile...they will have adaped to it..

Great addition IMO....however i just wish they were in the action some more

Oh, listen to their native language carefully. You'll notice that what they say is mostly the same syllables, but with different tones. I believe that the Vortigaunt language is at least partially tonal, that is, the meaning of what is being said depends not only on the word itself, but also on the tone.

yeah, who's to say that they weren't always very intelligent beings? those collars that enslaved them to the nihilith also inhibited them from expressing themselves.

Any idea on how much ass a Vortigaunt kicks in combat? Try spawning a few against combine or any other foe, total carnage!

Hell, I like the little bastards :D
