I don't see how they're porting this to X-BOX.

I own an X-BOX, and am a huge fan of the platform.

But Doom 3 on X-BOX is gonna be terrible. Playing this on my new 6800 GT, I saw the future of rendering technology in games. The graphics in this game are just a generation ahead of the Xbox hardware, plain and simple. I can't believe they're even trying to port it.

They are shortening the levels to make it work.

It will probably look similar to low detail on the PC. Still looking great. Graphics aren't the problem for me.. its that damn controller. How anyone can prefer such a thing for FPS games is beyond me.

I was gonna say.....

Riddick was near a Doom 3 level of graphical quality, but the levels were absolutely TINY. So I guess they're taking a similar route with Doom. That's what you get with 64 megs of RAM I guess.

The thing is, even with worse gfx and a joypad (which I actually quite like for FPS), if XBox Doom 3 has co-op it'll still be more fun.

(I know the pc mod is coming out - i've got a real early version. Time will tell how good it ends up)

Man Warbie, I swear we should put a 'Bash PC games' Jar for you, we'd be millionares ;).

Seriously though, from what I've seen and heard, I think the X-box might be a little out of its depth.

As for the coop, here's to hoping they get the PC version working well. Though I have the feeling that the major part of Doom is the single player aspect.

the res on the xbox will be lessened. There will be nearly no anti-aliasing(AA) on the xbox, but id software have confirmed that "Everything in the pc version will be in the xbox version".

hehe :) I'll lay off them for a while then.

you should see chronicles of Riddick on Xbox, its do-able.
however I dont see the point of co-op in this game, its too cramped to have another person blocking you.

Chronicles of Riddick uses an algorithm which when the FPS was about to drop, screwed up the textures, particle effects and a couple of other things. This helped keep a constant framerate, but this caused couple of AA problems. Worked pretty well too - and I hardly noticed this, good job Starbreeze!

Now, I don't think Vicarious Visions would be able to spend time to do stuff like that, as it's just a port. But I've heard the port mught be delayed till 2005, as id software will help them with the optimization for the xbox.

they did? heh I didnt notice at all.. then again textures arent as crisp as on PC so I take it as it is... and the Xbox version of D3 looks really muddy too (from released screenshots)

heh, well I thought Riddick was a damn fine example of great graphics on a console.

Have you seen any of the screenshots? It look horrific, and I don't mean that in a scary way.
