I feel sorry for Chinese MMORPG gamers

WHAT! they have no right to do that. why does the government care how long people play online?!! there paying the bills!

atleast is better that a total ban

and how the other say the gamers are paying bills right? them imo they should do something about that

china is home to some of the best programmers in the world ..just a matter of time before it's cracked ...but this still sucks ..but it wouldnt affect me all that much ...I wish I could get 3 consecutive hours to play a game ...do you have any idea how disjointed an excellent game like HL2 gets when played in one hour installments?

CptStern took the words out of my mouth...

I immediatly thought, yea, that will be cracked in every game like hours after release....

If i were in china, I wouldnt worry at all..

But if you're caught you'll be detained somewhere without trial for the rest of your life :(

Well..China is communist. If they want to do that..they'll do it.

Communism has nothing to do with that. A stupid ****ing goverment does.
If there was a country that had a Democracy for there goverment, yet the people lived as communists it would be very nice.
The people would still have control on what happens in there goverment, but everyone would live equally and contribute to society, there would be no poor or rich.

And we'd be stuck in 2005 for the rest of our lives. If there's no reason to work (i.e. money) then why bother?

seems to work in a kibbutz

There is a thin line between “control” and “in society/living rules” can you see that line?
China can`t…

Very funny.

Actually, thats a good idea.

Thats an excellent idea. Best thing a government could do for people who play to many video games. Think of it this way. Playing video games for more than 3 hours or whatever every day of their lives getting no exercise and eating unhealthy foods makes very sick, fat and worthless human beings.
It's kinda sad when people get so addicted to those games that they skip school and work to play. The government isn't stupid. All they want is for their people to be healthy and productive, the same as any other country. It has nothing to do with being communist.
Being communist isn't as evil as everyone says it is either. Look at Cuba. They are doing a lot better now as communists then as a democracy. The whole country used to be corrupted really badly and the rich were super rich and powerful and the poor had nothing more than the clothes on their backs (if they had even that). I'm not saying that Cuba is completley free of corruption today either, but its way better for the people these days then it used to be. In any system of government there is always a certain level of corruption.
Back to the point of the 3 hour game limit it just makes sense. I like to play video games too but it becomes addictive and I need someone to kick me off. It's like having a parent to make sure you get doing other things that are more healthy such as playing sports. I think it's a great idea because when you get addicted you lose track of time and don't realize how much time you spend infront of a glowing screen. Maybe even this will spark people to think like "holy shit! I've played for 3 hours already? God damn I got to go and do something else!"

it is an.......interesting concept...but as someone said it would be cracked pretty quickly

I just dont get how they think limiting someone to 3 hours a day is going to make any difference whatsoever. I mean, whether you're addicted to playing 10 hours or 3 hours a day you're still addicted, and if anything that amount of time is likely to leave people hungering for more to the point of idleness.
I get the whole idea about China- they want a sensible, compliant, 'happy', robot-like workforce- they dont want people wiling away their hours on video games, but giving someone a 3 hour taste every day is no way to go about it.
My 2c.

It says for three consecutive hours.

Solution: play for three hours, log off for five minutes, play again for another 3 hours...rinse and repeat.

doesnt work like that ...you cant play ANY game after the 3 hr allotted time

Is so easy for you to say all the nonsense you just said, did you know that Castro eats and lives like a King? Did you know Castro government has killed thousand of people just because they didn’t agree to his government? Did you know he murdered and entire family one year ago because a raft were found in their house and they wanted to escape from the country? How dare you say that "is better for some countries to have communism? Who are you to decide for those poor people what is better for them?

You have to play it in 3 hour increments... 3 hours of playing, 3 hours of not being able to play, rinse, repeat

The smart chinese gamer will get two accounts, play one for 3 hours, and then when one gets turned off, go to the other one... when that one is done with the 3 hours, the other one will be ready.

So stupid, but hey the guys keep dying over there from MMO's ...

Haha... that's a really good joke! A bit drawn out, but it has a great punchline!

Unless you tell me you actually live in Cuba and have any sort of experience living there I'll just accept what you said as a very funny joke :)

Who the hell are you to decide? Every country does killing of famillies and all that covered up bulls*it CIA or w/e intelligence agency your country has does. What about the CIA whacking out Che Gueverra? Or the CIA trying to assinate bob marley because he supported a cause the American government didn't like? You just don't hear about it because you think exactly how they want you to think. Most countries don't support communism and so try to reflect everything negative on it so they can make you believe its inhuman and that the people are being illtreated. You were saying Castro eats and lives like a king? Well it may be he is a bit corrupt and takes more than he should but so is every damned politican out there. It's not like he doesn't work his ass off either like every other person in Cuba. If there was no communism he would probably be even richer and the poor would be even poorer and the thousands of people deported or "killed" which you seem to be certain of would just be fighting and killing each other anyways for food, power, jobs, money and etc. You don't realize how much Castro has cleaned up Cuba do you? Crime rates decreased a single living class was created with a few corrupt people up top but overall Cuba has benifited. I'm not saying communism is the answer either. It just happens to work smoothly in Cuba.

I've visited there but haven't lived there for long periods of time. I also know people who live there.

I never said that other countries don’t do killings (USA being the first one), your examples of a better economy can be found in any type of regime, they are not inherent to communism, heck even during the German Nazi regime their economy got better and the unemployment’s rate were next to cero. Of course communism is inhuman, communism has been proven as mayor failure of government system, all communist countries tent to collapse, history already proved that, would you live in country were you are not aloud to speak up your mind? Where you are not allowed to leave the country at will? Where you as a surgeon doctor will be as poor as the drunken bums next to you? Where do you have to make long lines for hours just to get your “Weekly food ration”, How can you say that if Cuba weren’t a communist country their people will be poorer?, Cuban people sell their bodies to tourist for a pack of cigarettes or food, isn’t that poor enough for you?. If you really think communism is a viable way “for some people” (it seems it’s up to you to decide who deserves it), then go and live there, because frankly, you sympathizing with the great Cuban system but living in a democratic country doesn’t make your opinion count that much…

The way this is turning out, shouldn't it be moved to the Politics forum?:p

It's disturbing a government can exert that level of control over it's populace. But i guess China has more of a group mentality than what we're used to in our countries, they aren't as individualistic. It's kind of like the Zerg, with a Zerg overmind.

They also have an internet police force about 30,000 strong monitoring all internet traffic blocking pornographic websites and pro-democratic websites. There is also rumour China has thousands of spies around the world monitoring the ex-patriots (making sure democratic parties don't gain control or something). There's a huge issue in Australia at the moment about a defected Chinese spy who's life is under threat..for defecting. He's seeking assylum here.

I just hope China doesn't start spreading it's cultural beliefs to other countries when it becomes the worlds economic superpower. (like certain other super powers try to do). I don't like many aspects of the Chinese culture, and i'm sure they hate many aspects of western culture. Tricky times head, nevertheless...

I have to say I find it amusing with all the people calling China communist, seeing as it's the closest ever right now to Capitalism it has ever been since the Communist government took over...

That’s true; they call themselves communists but they opened their doors to the world market since quite some time....

It will be cracked, the police won't care that it has been cracked either.

I've seen the internet bars, C&C Generals is strictly banned there, but doesn't stop it being a favourite in every internet bar (well CS is the favourite actually). I've seen PLA guys playing Generals. They may have the laws, but enforcing them is very difficult, considering everyone here always finds loopholes in the law anyway.
The majority of games are pirated, and enforcing a cap on usage will be unsuccessful, unless they can infiltrate/destroy the pirate networks (which they are so far unsuccessfully trying to stamp out).

Anyway China is not very communist at all apart from in name. The only reason the CCP can stay in power is because of Confucious style thinking by the whole nation, but they are looking to extend that control in case that system fails. They are effectively the new Emporers of China. Oh I'm in China right now, let's hope my post doesn't get censored.

Like I said, Communism has been working far better for China than Nationalism or Capitalism ever did.

What I mean by the Cubans not being even worse off is that the smart, rich, or powerful people would find a way to horde all the food, clothes, booze, services and whatever else people need to themselves and the poor, dumb or weak people wouldn't even get a chance to line up for food rations as you put it. Without communism in Cuba they would have a "too bad so sad" policy. If you don't have tons of money, education, or power your fu*ked. The way it is now every person gets an education, clothes, jobs and food. In any form of goverenment you can't really, truly speak your mind. Sure in democracy's you can vote but scandals, money and power can change who runs your country and how your country is run. For example look at America yet another time. How do you think Bush got in? Was it because of a scandal or "recount" and that his daddy was a former president or was it because the majority of people liked his opinion? If you got money and power you can achieve anything you want effectivley cutting out peoples freedom of choice. It's merely an illusion because politics are so corrupt. I agree with you that democracy is the best government system but what I'm saying is that right now Cuba's communism is benefiting the people overall compared to what it could be. Theres also people who sell their bodies in my country for food, drugs and other general things. Don't say this is soley because of communism. Is every person in Cuba standing on the corner? Or maybe they're the people that have made some poor decisions in life just like the whores of every democratic country.

I don’t know Colson, I think you are mixing up a lot of things here like "FBI conspiracies" and "Freedom is and Illusion" all that stuff, keep it simple, you said communism is the best thing that happened to Cuba, it is your opinion and I respect it, but I disagree, I have talked to several Cuban deserters and the stories are just terrible, anyway, I think that when Fidel dies communism will be over in Cuba (unless he is planing to live another 100 years), then I will give them a couple of years to get things right, if the country goes worse than now, then you were right, till then, I will stick with my opinion.
