W00t! It took me over a year and several hundreds of hours, but it was worth it! It's a bitch getting a licence in Sweden, as the instructors are always so damn nitpicking; most people fail at their first attempt. Not me though :D

Good job man. It's nice to be able to go anywhere whenever you want.

Well done man

I remember how happy I was when I passed ... feels great doesnt it! :D

dont drive around like an asshole...

congrats :)

Now you get to pay for gas, deal with old people going 40 in a 60, and a ricer sitting next to you with a muffler the size of an economy can of Ovaltine

One of the best feelings ever. Congrats, Monkey. :D

Pink licences ftw!

Yay for teh monkeh!

Have fun! Do you know what car you're going to be driving yet?

Thanks a lot, guys!

Yeah, the independence is probably the best part of it; it's great not having to rely in buses or parents driving you.

Both cars and gas is expensive as shit, so I'll probably get an old, small car that I can afford. Any recommendations for a cheap car?

Anything that's not a Ford Ka.

Got my test next month. :O
Maintaining progression! Hesitancy! Mirrors! Stop shouting c*nt at that taxi!

That's been like my tests in the past. \o/ Good luck.

its way too easy to get a license here in the states imo

congrats nonetheless!

You have to take a twenty hour class, then drive with your parents for an entire year, then take a road test to get your second license which still has restrictions. How is that too easy?

I'm fairly certain it's different for every state, but what you describe is similar to what you have to do here. It's definitely getting better in ways of being properly trained but I think you shouldn't be screwing around at age 16 in a car when you can be by yourself.

When do you get this first license?

In Canada, we get our beginner's license at 16, and then within three or six months we can get our full after we pass the driving test. Some choose to take a driving course, but you don't even have to.

Doesn't sound like "hundreds of hours" of work to me, not even close.

Here you get the restricted at 15, drive with someone 21 or older for a year, then you can take Driver's Ed at school (which is what I did) or take the course at the DMV. The license says you can't drive past 11 at 16, but who the hell reads the back of those things. ;)

I failed the written part 2 times, then passed the driving first shot.

WOOOO Congrats Taxeh!

<3 everybody

You have to be 18 to get a driver's licence in Sweden, which I think is a good rule. Most people simple don't have the maturity it takes to be a good driver when you're 16 or 17.

Any recommendations to a good, small, fuel-efficient and cheap car? It doesn't matter if it's a bit old.

Nice job. Sounds like you went through a lot more than I did to get my license. When I received it, I had maybe a total of 2.5 hours driving time in my whole life, including time with other people in the vehicle.

Same here, haha!

I passed, too.

Congrats. Being told you've passed is indeed a great moment. For fuel efficiency, you might want to try a Reliant Robin? ;)

I don't like the way the system works though, the guy I was doing my training with that day had been riding for years on L-plates and failed because he caused a car to brake slightly when he pulled onto a dual carriageway, and I passed first time with two and a half weeks experience despite there being huge question marks hanging over my head at the time. Evidently he was a far better rider than me, he deserved to get his license.

The cops.

Sure as hell do. I almost lost my license due to a curfew violation.

I didn't even have to take any driving tests. I just had my mom sign the papers stating that I had completed such-and-such amount of driving time with her, and was therefore qualified to receive a license and drive on my own.

Congrats man, it sure felt great when I passed mine (second attempt)

But... hundreds of hours? Here it's 30h of theory and 30h of driving. After you pass you're good to go, no need for driving with parents for a year as well.

Yeah, it was a great feeling, I was really tense during the whole thing, but it worked out nicely.

No, every one decides how much they want to practice before doing the test. I took so long time because I wanted to feel ready before doing the test. The hundreds of hours included both time with the teacher and with my parents, BTW.

Ah, I see, 30h is compulsory here but I did buy some more lessons, so it was probably closer to 50h for me.

Here you can take your permit test when you're 16 which is 20 extremely easy multiple choice questions. Once you pass that you get your permit which means you can only drive to and from school/work/doctor by yourself and anywhere else you need someone over 21. Then you must take a 5 hour course about driver's safety. After that you can take your road test whenever (supposed to have 20 hours driving experience but thurs no way they can tell) and get ur license if u pass.

I passed the written part but if I would've missed one more I would've failed. Failed the driving portion once because the person that rode with me was a straight up bitch. Second lady was very nice.

I didn't take any classes. I barely drove with my parents. I made a 25/25 on a written test that a child could pass. I drove around a neighborhood once, stopped at the stop signs, and it was over. I could have done when I was ten years old and drunk and in a car full of spiders.

Corolla, theres one for every price range but aim for a good late 70's or 80's model. Mines never broken down, or even looked like breaking down. Main point is get it looked at by a mechanic, there are some really shit cars out there and you don't get to take it back.

I got my license a few months back, got my L's at 16 then took my license at 18. Judging from what some of you guys had to do, our system is dead easy you have to have serious serious problems to fail.

now just wait until you get tired of buying gas and you'll be back to riding a bike again...:)

What about the Kia Pride?

I found a car of that model from 2000. It has travelled 90.000 km and costs a little over $2000 (14500 SEK). You think I should buy it?

Well, you might be able to find something better if you look longer, but if you want/need a car now then why not?

^ Well, I'm not exactly in a hurry, but I thought it looked like an OK car. Fuel-efficent and all. Then again, I know shit about cars, so... Can you (or anyone else) recomend me a good car? (I've checked out The Toyota Corolla, as suggested, and it looked OK.)

I don't really know what Sweden has to offer... What kind of imports do you get and such like that.

Usually the Japanese cars are a good way to go, like the Toyotas, Suzuki, Mitsubishi. If you're going for more of the fuel efficent ones, then the Yaris is pretty decent with 60 miles per gallon.

We got all kinds of imports, and I hear from other sources too Toyota they're good. Do you also recommend a Corolla?

What about a Renault Clio 1,2?
