i think its cool! i love the boat action, but i dont get it, whats the point of the different types of cannons? how does the map work? when i am fighting close combat, does my crew fight in real time? or is it just background thing when im fighting their captain? when i got more than one ship, how come when i engage to fight, i can only use one? how can i get different cannon shot for other ships? and once again, how does the map work? whats my objective? i signed up with the dutch, but i dont know where it shows who im friendly with, and who i am not, when i go to a english port, they greet me, when i was suppose to be in war with them? i just dont get it! and for the french in pink, man thats funny. "may i tell you about our french victories?" asks the french commander "dont you mean french defeats?" says you

The crew come abroad to fight with you and it gauges how much time you have left untill you can defeat the captain.

If your crew runs down to 0 you get defeated, if his run down to 0 he gets defeated automatically.

Its a timer based on your crew. What dies wont return, it aint pirates of the carribean

At any rate, Pirates! is one of the greatest games I've played in a very long time...

The only problem I've discovered in terms of gameplay is when you fail to defeat a prime target (for example the baron), you instantly get a sloop and a 40 odd crew AT THAT LOCATION, as opposed to prison time in a nearby settlement when cought by the others. This means that you can just pound them with sloops, loose, pound them again, until the ship is so crippled you just use grape shot and wipe out the enemy crew.

I thought the game was fun, but for some reason I never got into it :\

About the cannons, this is whatcha gotta do...

If you want to take the ship and add it to your fleet, don't do chainshot... Use grapeshot a few times and then board their ship...

If you want to plunder but then sink their ship... Chainshot their sails to shit and then board them.

If you are severely out-numbered then make sure you chainshot their sails to shit, and then grapeshot the crew to hell... That way you won't be as bad and gives you better odds in beating the captain in a hurry..


I think the game gets too repetitive at times because it's just like captain's battles tend to be the same, dancing is just crazy at times, and all that jazz is pretty much all the same with few twists (which really you create for yourself)

the game is a good time waster though

actually, if your crew goes down to zero then you lose the next time you get hit, its still possible to win a fight even if all your crew die

I just got this. It's a good game, but I'm finding it VERY easy so far. I killed someone with a really good ship with almost every upgrade, so i end up killing anyone thatI come up against. I just beat the bad guy that messed with your family really easily too.

Yeah, they've started being annoying now because I've not got enough gold, 30,000+ isn't enough for 230 crew.

I'm kind of stuck. I'm looking for the main bad guy's hidden hideout. I have the whole map and it says search south of Campeche. The map has bits of water on it, but directly south of Campeche is just land. There is a bit further down, but the landmarks (totem pole and all that) don't seem to match the map i've got.

how i found like 3 treasures in a row and that dudes hideout was i was sailing along the coast, and if you put your mouse over the various rocks in the ocean (devils rock, lookout rock, etc.) they will flash to saying "Treasure landmark". simply go ashore and follow your maps. i beat that evil dude and i have 150,000 with 60 some fame. the problem now is that im using henry morgans large frigate with 40 guns, and i find myself sinking treasue galleons before i have a change to plunder them. great game though

Hehe. I defeated every notorious pirate, and I have one more relative to go, before I am done with that quest. I am unfortunately in bad health, and my crew us being mutinous.
