My friend is in the Marines and just recently he found out he will probably be going to Iraq, a war he doesn't support nor agree with him. His mother, who I work with, is extremely upset with the situation. So, if you are an American and you support this war I have a proposition for you, why don't you take his place? Seinfeld, Glirk, Fox Trot, anyone???

This should get you started:

Why'd he join the Marines?

The thing is, when a person signs up to join the armed forces, they are saying that they will give their lives to protect their country, not fulfill the personal ambitions of some administration or liberate nations or spread American ideals across the globe. So if they are commanded to risk their lives for something totally unrelated to defense of the country I can't see why it's so unreasonable to refuse.

Sorry, I plan on performing my service after college. Your friend shouldnt have signed up if he wasnt ready to do this, especially to the marine corp.

I take it he signed up after the war began, and is now acting shocked he is going?

<clap clap clap> that's very admireable seinfeldrules, giving your life so that another can live ...stay safe in iraq

Have a problem with R-E-A-D ING? This is one of those things I will get very pissed off about. I'm allowed to live my life how I choose without you guys butting in. Leave my personal life to me.

My question stands, did he sign up after the war began?

...oh sorry I just assumed that since you're such a loud unflinching supporter of the war that you'd leap at the opportunity to fight for your country and defend your idealism

I plan on serving after college where I feel I can be the biggest help, but again my life is for me to live how I see fit.

oh sure let the other people do the dirty work and you'll just mosey on in after all the fighting is done with

You can predict the future 5 years from now?

He said he plans to join when he leaves college and feels he'd be of the most help. Drop it.

sure....5 years from now the US will occupy the nation formerly known as Iraq, now designated as Crater#10737 in the area called the Middle Eastern Badlands ...home of an indiginous species of radiated coakroaches, sole survivors of the 3 day Oil Wars of 2006

Why'd he join the Marines?
He joined in 2003 when Bush and other administration officials were telling us the war would only last months. He has to remain in the marines until 2007 I believe and if he goes to Iraq that will probably be much longer. He joined because he was on the wrong path in life and the Marines really did a great service to him, he is a much better person now. However, that doesn't exclude the fact he doesn't support this war and never has.

After college? That makes no sense. If you go now you will get much better benefits for college and will be able to go to a much better school and make a shit load of money in the process. I don't see why you are waiting.

WOAH People...obviously this has gotten out of hand..I've never heard of Stern makin useless points in a politics forum before...so this subject must be extremely touchy.

To get realistic hear...No Limit....If he doesn't go he will go to jail correct?? How can anyone take his place? He's already signed up. To be blunt, it's not other people's problem that he doesn't want to go. Seinfeld says he will be after college...and don't worry stern..it will take a whole lot more than 5 years for this to stop, so seinfled will have tons of things to do there. But I don't see why you wanna kill yourself because of this Bull**** war.

Yes, I could receive scholarships now. However, I want to see where I can get in Gov't with my current (proposed) education. If no positions are immediately available I will join the military as an officer and at least pay off college, if not make it my career. And the college I am going to is just right for me. I had my choice of colleges, but I chose this one for the opportunities it offered. Happy now that you know my life's plans?

No, I'm not happy. My friend is still going there against his wishes and you are sitting here seeing how things will play out before you go and join. He doesn't have that luxury.

Well then too bad for you and your friend. Dont fault me for taking the time and effort to give myself that luxury. Its not my fault he ****ed up.

Well obviously he can't leave now and nobody can take his place. I am just pointing out how this war has ruined so many lives and Bush is too much of a coward to even face the mothers of soldiers that died. Not to mention he hasn't asked his twins to go to war for him.

No, he didn't **** up. When he joined everyone, even the recruiter, was telling him this war wouldn't last longer than his combat training. They all lied to him. Now you support this war, if enough of you go there wont be a need for people like him to go.

I know that bush has ruined alot of lives, he's also split the country. What my question is why would anyone support a Bull**** war like this one? It's hard to imagine. Bush even had plans to go to Iraq before 9/11. So I don't know what some people are thinking. I do fell extremely sorry for the troops because there the ones that are dying for an undefined cause.

meh if there's ever a draft you're ALL going ...heheh not me ..I'm too old ...and I'll just tell them I'm gay/muslim/hippie/commie/ned flanders

My feet are apparently too large for duty. If that doesn't work I should be refused for homosexuality. I'll flirt with the troops! FEAR ME!

Hell no I ain't going. That wannabe southerner can kiss my white alabama ass. I'll just go live with you stern. :D

I already told you what my plans are. Accept it and move on.
I know what your plans are and believe me I will have no problem moving on. However, it was you and your right wing friends that were the driving force behind this war (eventhough a lot of shit head democrats went along with you for political reasons). It is your job to go there and fight since you supported it and still do. If you aren't willing to do that thats fine, but I think you owe it to everyone there not to open your mouth on the Iraq war again.

A woman that has been the most calm person at my work place is going bat shit crazy today because her son will be leaving her for at least 2 years, possibly longer and he is going to place where he might not make it back. I know you don't give a shit but next time you open your mouth about how good and nobel this war is I want you to think about that for a second. I also want you to think about the fact you aren't willing to go there until you see how things play out and then in 5 years you might or might not join. You, like most on your political side, are a chickenhawk.
