I have the original Half-Life, can I upgrade to HL:S for free?

I don't have it installed right now - what do I need to do?

you need to buy one of the steam packages. u cant just get it for free because u have original hl. thats like me saying i have halo, can i have halo 2 for free?

Naw, it's more like saying "I have Quake, can I have glQuake for free?"...which they gave away free...naturally. Really, it's barely an improvement, and definitely not a completely new game.

But yea, you have to buy either Silver or Gold package from steam...and then you'll have Half Life anyway, so yea, everyone who has HL: Source has (or has access to) Half Life.

I also own Half-Life 2 and it should be done downloading (I'm currently at work).

Actually, it's not the same as wanting Halo 2 just because I have Halo 1. I bought the Half-Life Game of the Year Edition back in '99 - Half-Life:Source is not the sequel - it's (practically) the same game with (mostly) 2004 graphics.

I can't imagine anybody shelling out more than a few bucks to play a prettier version of a game they finished 5 years ago and paid full price for.

So to recap - I own Half-Life (and Blue Shift) as well as Half-Life 2 (through Steam). What do I need to do to update HL to HL:S? I think I would be willing to pay up to $5 on top of the $100+ I've already spent on 3 HL titles. I don't think I'm being unreasonable or asking for something for nothing.

Well, because I had the ATI coupon I was able to buy the Silver Pack for $10. I was willing to pay $5 for the HL:S upgrade and I guess the other titles that are included like Opposing Force and Condition Zero are worth $5 as well. So, they're happy, I'm happy - all is right with the (gaming) world.
