Well for the last few months, we've all been raving, drooling, and dreaming about how beautifull those UE3 screenshots are/were. I have seen people talking about photorealism, the best they've seen yet, the most beautiful realtime rendering etc. etc. I've seen people talking about how todays high end could barely run it on slow, and that its truly a next gen engine etc.

Recently the xbox360 made its debut, and these same people seemed miffed at how uninspired they were. And how the 360 didn't scream "next gen" to them.

The game "gears of war" turns out, it is the UE3 pictures we've all been raving about. The ones we've been calling next gen this whole time. And its coming to the xbox360...

Wheres the miscomunication here?

I'm really impressed by gow, I'm surprised people arent.

I don't have an HDTV and i want to know what that will actually look like on my pos.

Get an adapter for your moniter and it will look sexual.

Not to mention how everyone was "omg i'm going to have to spend thousands of dollars to upgrade my pc to play this UE3 game"... When it turns out you need only to buy a 300 dollar console :)

Maybe we're not graphics whores. UT is a franchise and we know we'll get a decent game out of it.

And do Epic somehow have access to 6ghz supercomputers that we don't have access to? No. Sure, they might get newer graphics cards from Nvidia, but I don't know how much else.

I'm sure 3.6ghz will be able to run UT2007 fine.

You're sort of missing the point. All he's saying is that if people thought the graphics for Gears of War were so amazing, then why is there disappointment with the Xbox 360? It is, after all, a launch title.

Half the games we have seen for the next gen consoles look nothing like Gears Of War or Unreal 3.

they where all very short clips, but from all the shown games, Gears of war screamed the most next gen to me.

Yeah I thoguht some stuff on the XB360 looked like penis... but of the 3 seconds i saw of GOW i was like :O... same with some of the PGR3 stuff going around...

Besides Halo and DOA the games released when the xbox first came out we`re just average. I`m certain that the games released even a couple of months after the launch date will look very good compared to some of the launch titles.

GOW!!! *drool*

It seems everyone is so far behind in terms of graphics. Im guessing that they haven't unlocked the power of the 360 yet. Its hardware is still pretty new.

Exactly. Launch titles rarely make full use of their console hardware. It takes time before you start seeing the real beauty pouring out.

But even with that said, I'm more than pleased with most of what I've seen the Xbox 360 produce thus far.

Well remember also that GOW is being developed on an engine made by Epic, which happens to be one of the biggest engine developers around... Some of the others aren't using UE3 thus they aren't pushing the same technologies, shaders, and rendering capabilities... Its the engines in this case not the xbox 360 thats causing the games to look bad.

There's also the people that look at the the videos for the xbox 360 and complain how the game runs at 10 fps. Jeez, the freaking game isn't even finished and they're already complaining!!! Not to mention the fact that the console probably isn't finished either... I'm sure that once everything is tweaked and optimized, the games will look great and run great.

I'm excited about the Xbox 360. It’s obviously a very powerful console. I think the only disappointment comes with the fact that we haven’t been shown anything totally new or jaw-dropping yet. I was expecting something shocking from them, something we’ve never seen before. I was hoping to see things that completely surpassed current or near-future PC’s. The best footage out of everything shown was the short Gears of War clip, and while it was good, we were given a much better taste of UE3 graphics over a year ago. For me the wow factor wasn’t quite there simply because I’ve already seen things that are equal to or better than what has been shown on the Xbox 360 so far. If that clip had been my first glimpse of UE3 I probably would have wet myself, but it wasn’t.

That's what I said. Just seeing some pretty graphics isn't going to get me excited.

Hence why I'm saying I'm more excited by UT, because we know it'll be somewhat fun at least. GoW is just a nice looking game that could turn out to be crap, so why should I be excited?

Oh, I was speaking only about the technical aspect of the console. My mistake. :)

well stardog, you can't tell is a game plays next gen by screenshots or video clips...
So that kind of doesn't even go with this thread :)
