This extension adds a menu to firefox that you can launch steam games from. HL2, DOD: SRC, and HL1: SRC will work once they are released.

Here's the site (with a screenshot)

It's great and all, but I certainly don't want my browser running taking up system resources while playing games :)

Fire fox is a trendy useless APP. Just like all the people who use Linux instead of 98 or XP because it was cool back then. Ohh look at me I can copy and paste CS server code and run this leet linux server and play games like a masta.

I am bitter. I hate trends most of the time.

I thought like that until I made the switch. Tabbed browsing, fully skinnable, favourites toolbar, integrated google search and pop up blocker. And on top of that no more spyware.

switch over because you love my extension, not because its "trendy" :bounce:

Using Firefox isn't "trendy", it's just plain common sense to NOT use IE unless you have to. Myself, I prefer Opera over Firefox. :p

Spyware doesn't install itself. IE is skinnable as well, since when has IE lacked favorites? Google search can be done as well(By a simple registry key i think), and popup blocker is already there.

Although Firefox isn't bad i haven't seen ANY base for "Rediscover the web" and etc. ads they're running. It's pretty similar to IE.

Atleast for the end user.

I haven't found any decent skins for firefox...

Don't be a twat. No one uses FF because it looks 1337 like Linux, it's no harder than IE, it just pwns IE from every angle.

A trend? Aha! Ha! Ha! Well if Firefox is a trend, then i'm not ashamed all to admit - i'm trendy.

It's not a trend, it's better than IE in nearly every way

How do you install this extension, or where do you put it. I tried putting it in the extensions folder but nothing happend.

"IE is better than everything in every way."

Dragoro:

Do you want to install the activex control 'dialer-freeporn-spyware.cab'? It is recommended that you don't install it.

[yes] [no] [more information]

And it is here where you say "Yeah i would like a dialer to give me free porn at the cost of my phonebill plus spyware, lets install it".

The only reason to why Firefox is "safer" is because it doesn't even support it. It's called security through obscurity.

go to file -> open file, or press ctrl+o and browse to steamgames.xpi

or go to where you have steamgames.xpi and drag the file into firefox's window

Kinda funny that you would know a spyware from a porn site...

And not its not security through obscurity, its security by not using a non needed function. IE is trash, you can argue against that all you want, till your blue in the face, and it still will be trash.

I thought firefox was just geek-l337 too, after all, what's the point if IE does the job just fine. Then I downloaded it out of boredom and it's now my standard browser. It's just easier to use and if you find yourself with a lot of sites open, tabs are a dream come true. Try it for a fre days, then come back and appologise for the error of your ways ;)

Kinda funny you are that ignorant, i know for a fact that many people get malware and spyware in form of dialers from pornsites.

The name is made up, because it obviously the name would be something like "Click yes to accept our software".

And Firefox doesn't have ActiveX because they obviously don't have the code for the interpreter, but that still doesn't make it safe. It's the same case if you are asked to download this file called 'malware.exe'. (Their recent additions to make their browser work more like IE proves it)

People need and use plugins all the time, and they're integrated into programs like IE, Office, and other programs. You might not need them, but remember you have the abillity to turn them off. But i guess you were unaware of that too.

Sure i can argue, and i will, even though i can't expect much from fanboys like you. "Hey Firefox pwns IE in every way!111111".

Then you get pulled down to the ground, and in a rush to raise yourself from us you say something stupid like "You can argue all you want, because i'll hold my breath and act like nothing is happening".

I haven't had any unwanted spyware/malware or the likings since that time i was forwarded to another site where i was about to click a download link, and then the activex dialog popped up and i accidently hit the yes button :(

However it was removed quickly with Spybot S&D. And since that time i haven't had anything other than tracking cookies.

Yes, thank you.

I love arguements over browsers. They're the best :)

I myself use Firefox :afro:

Psssshhhh, The only reason I started using mozilla (firefox) was because of the security issues that IE poses. They haven't really done much with it in years since they won the browser wars. And every time I read about another IE security problem ( I really hate ActiveX ) i'm even more satisfied with my choice. I also liked it because I was a former netscape user and I liked the way it worked but netscape sucked after a while, so I needed something else....

It's worth mentioning that the Internet Explorer team has been reactivated following competition from Firefox, so we can expect major new versions to be released in the future. Lets not forget that IE 6 was a reasonably good browser when it first came out. A few probs with CSS and of course security, but it still works. SP2 made good improvements too.

Having said that, I use Firefox ;)

Right having never used your extension thingy - gotta say well done - ignore the ppl in here who slag you off m8 - and congratulations on making a nice lil tool from the sounds of it -

Nice idea. But i dont see myself useing it hehe :p

To use the extention, save it to disk and double click on it.. Open with Firefox then click install =)

Sidenote to the IE fanboy: Firefox is faster, has tabbed browsing, is safer, looks bettah (trendy, harr) and for crying out loud YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT SEXY FOX ICON... =)

And why would you want to launch steam games from firefox anyway? Why not just use the steam menu? And wouldn't you want to to close down all your browsers/applications before playing a game?

niiiiiiiice! this is clean 12 out of 10 on the international 1337ness scale!
thx!

Not to the same extent.

since when has IE lacked favorites?
I'm talking about the favourites toolbar. That's one click access to your chosen sites.

popup blocker is already there.
With SP2, and the implimentation is a lot more irritating.

Of course it's similar - there's only so much a web bowser can do. But in comparison to IE there's really no competition.

IE plainly sucks compared to Firefox.
Personally Opera does have some features over Firefox.

The thing about Firefox is when it blocks a popup, it tells you on a very nice simple basis. You can unblock it and do many things. Cool autoupdate features. Very skinable, and changeable.
I HATE ITS DL SYSTEM. Though its comparable to IE.
But i just counter its DL system with DAP.

IE Popup blocker helps alot, but I still like firefox's better.

Opera though, dosn't have auto updates, costs $(*crack it*), is pretty easy to change around, has a popup blocker than has a few diffrent settings, has a download tool that is better than firefox and IE, dosn't support plugins to well.

Firefox is a great browser, and has a smooth and customizable interferance. It can do what you want easily. It gives alot of support for plugins and has a great auto update feature. Firefox accordiing to me is better than IE.

Added a steam submenu with things like friends, server browser, backup, etc. due to someone requesting it. Check site for updated version.
