and I hope I don't have to pay for it later.

After making a run to the store, I returned home and decided to give it a good rinse off and add about 2/3 a quart of oil. So I opened up the hood and sprayed it down, realizing I just did something really stupid. (I'm not sure, but I think adding oil while it was still hot was a bad idea too) You should never spray down a hot engine, especially on a vehicle that gets you to work every day!

It sort of churned and bucked a bit, following a low rattling noise, I was scared shitless that I just caused some major damage to my mule. After cutting the engine and letting it cool for a bit, I started it back up and I seemed to be ok. From now on, I need to make sure not to have my head up my ass and think about what I'm doing before I do it me thinks.

So, I doubled checked later to make sure everything was fine. So far so good. I don't think there was any permanent damage. Any thoughts?

I did something stupid the other day. We were trying to fix the door on the Aerostar... and I didn't realize we left it nearly closed but not actually latched. Me and my brother went out some place, and as I was pulling out of the cul-de-sac, rather fast because I was trying to get a spot on the other side of the main street, the door slid open.

After we pulled over to close it, we realized that it completely pulled itself off the top sliding hinge place... I'm so ****ing lucky the sliding door didn't fly off completely. and into one of the cars that was in the next lane as I was making my turn.

Doing that is about as retarded as this: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=168630

Wait, you only sprayed it down while it was hot?

You didn't leave the oil cap open?

You are fine. There is a reason car washes aren't getting sued for having the engine cleaners there. Unless your engine runs insanely hot, *massive v8 or rotary...* then some water on the engine will be OK. Of course, unless you ran it hard before spraying it....

Engines run Coolant + can't get too hot due to failure. You are fine, don't worry. You'd know if you broke your engine \=

I'd also say your fine. have you ever driven quickly through water like hydroplaning?? same effect

Not really, because nobody here really gives a shit who I am.

Ya, It's just that I've heard that rapid cooling of the engine could cause aluminum heads to warp or crack.

I didn't want to be in a situation that'll leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere tomorrow, which is why I asked for an opinion in this thread.

I pulled the door panel off of my Honda Civic to try to fix the seatbelt retractor. When I popped out the panel, all this electronic junk fell out of the bottom. It turns out the plastic casing for the seatbelt locking mechanism had cracked (a long time ago). And all of the seatbelt electronic stuff was just dangling loose inside the door. I tightened up the coil spring and duct taped the rest of it back in there and called it good.

Cold water on hot metal surfaces = bad idea.

Why did you feel the need to put more oil in there? That's the part I don't get.

NOTE: cars burn oil when they get old/by design/shitty engine

I put about 1/4 of a quart about every week or so since I drive about a couple of hundred miles or more every week or so. That, and I was a little too lazy that day to check the dipstick. I don't like my truck's dipstick because it can be difficult to use sometimes when I'm in a hurry because of it's length and it's so flimsy. I'm going to have it changed completely soon tough since it's about that time. About every 1500 miles is what most people go by.

Everything seems to be ok though as far as hosing the engine down while hot. I'll just have to make a personal note never to do that ever again and pay the f**k attention to what I'm doing. That was a scare fs.

1500? That is no time at all. I only change it every 5000, but if it's a bigass truck engine then it would probably make sense to change more often.

My check engine light goes on and off which is annoying during the Inspection month but other than that my car is decent
